FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!

FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!
We wrote this Blog Post and everything is burning right now.
It’s really HOT! So let’s take a little trip on FlashbackFriday!
(Please do not read this Blog Post in a crowded theatre)

Ready? Aim. FIRE!

“Come on, baby, light my fireTry to set the night on fire!”

fire

The element is FIRE!

LEO has the most fundamental relationship with FIRE.
When confronted with challenges,
fire’s influence becomes obvious.
While others quit in the face of adversity,

LEOs are inspired by burning passion and enthusiasm.
Embrace fire’s positive qualities,
and always work towards achieving the goal.
Be aware of fire’s negative influence,
it can stir impatience and impulsivity.

The fire person has leadership qualities, dynamic passion,
and is decisive, self-confident, positive, and assertive.
The direction associated with Fire is South, and the season is summer,
which makes it the fixed element for the animal signs Snake and Horse

The Snake:
Snake_(Chinese_characters)

Fire (Chinese: ; pinyin: huǒ) is the prosper of the matter,
or the matter’s prosperity stage, the second of the Wu Xing, the Five Phases.

In the regenerative cycle of Wu Xing, wood engenders Fire
as fire is generated by rubbing together two pieces of wood
and it must be fueled by burning wood;
Fire begets earth as fire reduces everything to ashes,
which become a part of the earth again.
In the conquest cycle, water overcomes Fire
as nothing will put out a fire as quickly as water.
Fire overcomes metal as it can only be melted and forged by flame or heat.

Fire is yang in character. Its motion is upward and its energy is convective.

Fire is associated with the positive emotion of joy
and the negative emotion of hate.

Fire is associated with Summer, the South, the planet Mars and The Sun ,
the color red (associated with extreme luck), hot weather, daylight,
and the Vermilion Bird (Zhu Que)

Organs associated with the Fire element are the Heart (yin)
and small intestine (yang), the tongue and the body’s pulse.

“There’s a fire in my belly…. but it might just be supper.”

Fire attributes are considered to be dynamism, strength, and persistence;
however, it is also connected to restlessness.
The fire element provides warmth, enthusiasm, and creativity;
however, an excess of it can bring aggression, impatience, and impulsive behavior.
In the same way, fire provides heat and warmth; however, an excess can also burn.

“Burn like Fire! Burn like Fire in Cairo!”

The Fire Knife Dance began in the ancient Polynesian demonstration of ailao,
a ceremonial performance of the Samoan warrior’s display of strength with a war club.
Fire dancing aka “poi spinning” began in the Maori’s war tradition in New Zealand.

It’s a Hawaiian Luau Tradition!

Also called fire spinning, fire performance, fire twirling or fire manipulation.

Friday, July 16, 2021 – World Snake Day!

image-placeholder-title

On this day in 1969, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins
launched aboard Apollo 11 (July 16–24, 1969), the first spaceflight
with the objective of landing humans on the Moon.
On July 21, 1969, Armstrong became the first man to walk on the lunar surface,
at 02:56 UTC, and Aldrin became the second man 19 minutes later.

1:35am: We ate and watched episode 8 of “The Mandalorian”.
And now we’re watching episode 9…… it’s a “Deadwood” reunion!

2:30am: We took the dogs outside.
And now they’re back in the Home Office with us.

JoshWillTravel: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

7:20am: Okay, we slept, but it wasn’t good sleep. We woke up.
We made a double iced espresso. Drink Coffee. Drink Water.
We took the dogs outside. We fed the dogs. We took the dogs outside.

JoshWillTravel: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

12:05pm: And we’re awake again. We fell asleep and slept. It was good.
But now it’s noon. It’s a beautiful day outside. We got the newspapers.
We took the dogs outside. And now we’re updating this Blog Post.

NOTE: When we took the dogs outside, we noticed that the water in the swimming pool was very low. So we turned on the water from the hose and put it in the pool. And then for the next 20 minutes we kept chanting “Pool Water” so we wouldn’t let it run all day long. And we just went back outside and turned it off. Good job!

A sunny Friday Afternoon in mid-July.

The stature of Confederate General Robert E. Lee
was finally removed from Charlotte, North Carolina, today.

BLACKLIVESMATTER!

1:20pm: We made another iced espresso. We ate some dry salami.

10:30pm: Chore Boy showed up and vacuumed. He did some laundry too.
We gave the little boy a bath with baking soda, because he’s been itching.
We ordered a pizza delivery.

On The Menu: Extra-large pizza with sausage and meatball. Good Shabbos!

Saturday, July 17, 2021 – Happy 66th Birthday Disneyland!
On this day in 1955, DISNEYLAND OPENED TO THE PUBLIC!

“To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land.
Here age relives fond memories of the past…and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America…with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”

12:15am: We fell asleep after pizza for an hour. And then we woke up.
We took the dogs outside. And now we’re all chillin’ in the Home Office

JoshWillTravel: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

8:45am: We are awake. We woke up early (around 6:00am).
We prepped the dog’s food. We folded some laundry.
We took the dogs outside. We fed the dogs. We took the dogs outside.
We got the newspapers. We drank an iced espresso.
Now we are chillin’ in the Home Office and the dogs are sleeping.

JoshWillTravel: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

2:35pm: We went back to bed and slept. We woke up.
We took the dogs outside. They went back to sleep.
We are awake. And we are hungry now.
We took the dogs outside again. And now they’re sleeping again.
We drank another iced espresso. Drink Coffee. Drink Water.

4:35pm: We got the mail.
Our regular postman must be on vacation, because our mail is coming late in the day,
instead of in the morning, so the substitute must be doing the route in reverse. Kinda sucks. And it’s HOT outside, and it’s noticeable just going from the door to the mailbox at 4:30pm. We ate two pieces of cold leftover pizza. And all is quiet on the Home Front and in the neighborhood.

5:45pm: It’s currently 83 degrees outside.
We just prepped the dogs food for supper.
We made a double iced espresso.

6:30pm: We took the dogs outside. We fed the dogs.
We took the dogs outside. And now we’re back in the Home Office.

“At approximately 7:23pm, Knott’s Berry Farm became aware of a male who had accessed a unauthorized area and climbed the Supreme Scream tower. Park personnel alerted local law enforcement and emergency responders who are now on site. The guest descended the tower at 8:55pm and is now currently safely on the ground in police custody. No other information is available at this time. The safety of our guests is always our top priority.”

On The Menu: 2 pieces of cold leftover pizza for dinner around 10:30pm.
And we scrounged around in the fridge after midnight for some stuff to eat.

And now let’s talk about that horoscope…. nothing broke, thank you. BUT:
Our step-sister and her family stopped by on the way back from San Francisco.
They had taken our SUV on the weekend road trip, and left their car at the house.
We also received a special package for them yesterday that they picked up tonight.
LA to SF – there and back. That’s a lot of driving for a weekend in San Francisco.
So, it wasn’t unexpected, but we didn’t know when they would be coming back.
So they showed up at 10:00pm, we took care of the business, they switched cars,
got the package, we chatted for a while and then they drove away.
And so my “Home Routine” of doing nothing on Sunday night was interrupted.
Take it for what it’s worth.

Asian American Art Museum in San Francisco

The San Francisco Chinese New Year Festival and Parade is the oldest and largest celebration outside of Asia, and the largest Asian cultural event in North America. Over 100 groups participate in the annual Chinese New Year Parade held since 1958. It is attended by ~500,000 people and watched by another 3 million television viewers.

“For over 5,000 years the Chinese have celebrated the awakening of spring with Lunar New Year festivities. In the 1860’s the Chinese in San Francisco started the Chinese New Year Parade as a way to educate their community about Chinese cultural customs. Today, San Francisco’s Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Festival and Parade – a two week celebration including a Flower Fair, Community Fair, Jamboree, Run, and the Miss Chinatown USA Pageant and Ball – is the largest Lunar New Year celebration outside of Asia.
A San Francisco tradition since just after the Gold Rush, the Parade continues to delight and entertain the over one million people that come to watch it on the street and hundreds of thousands more who watch the live broadcast…
Nowhere in the world will you see a lunar new year parade with more gorgeous floats, elaborate costumes, ferocious lions, exploding firecrackers , and of course, the newly crowned Miss Chinatown U.S.A. and her court. A crowd favorite is the spectacular 268′ Golden Dragon (“Gum Lung”). It takes a team of over 100 men and women from the martial arts group, White Crane to carry this dragon throughout the streets of San Francisco.”

UPDATE: The San Francisco 2021 Chinese New Year Parade has been CANCELLED due to COVID-19 and concerns over large public gatherings. Instead a Parade Broadcast Special will air on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 6 pm PST on KTVU. and a there will only be a few small live public events. Info: @ChineseParade

“Fai chun are traditional decorations that are frequently used during Lunar New Year.
People hang fai chun (red and gold paper signs with significant Chinese characters) on their doors to create a festive atmosphere. The phrases generally signify good luck and prosperity. Customarily, fai chun are written by hand, but for convenience, printed versions are mass-produced nowadays. The decorations are either square or rectangular in shape and can be displayed vertically or horizontally.”

Astronomy = the science of celestial objects, space, and the physical Universe.
And the study of the Universe beyond Earth’s atmosphere: the Sun, the Moon, galaxies, planets, stars, other objects that exist naturally in space, and other cosmic phenomena.
There are two main types of Astronomy: observational and theoretical.
Astronomy has been used to measure time, mark the seasons, and navigate the oceans.

February 18 is Pluto Day! Celebrate the discovery of the NINTH PLANET!
Clyde Tombaugh, an American astronomer, discovered Pluto on today’s date in 1930.
Pluto is named for the Roman G-d of the Underworld and has five known moons.
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) changed Pluto classification to a Dwarf Planet.
IAU claimed Pluto failed qualify as a full-sized planet. A full-sized planet must orbit Sol, the sun; have a sufficient mass to “assume hydrostatic equilibrium”, and “clear the neighborhood around its orbit.” Pluto has the first two, but not the third.
One day on Pluto is equal to 6.4 days on Earth. (6 days, 9 hrs, 36 mins)
Hundreds of dwarf planets exist, but the IAU only officially recognizes five:
Ceres, Pluto, Eris, Haumea, and Makemake.

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year 2017!

The Spring Festival begins on Saturday, January 28 at midnight.
The first day is for welcoming the deities of the heavens and earth.
It is tradition to light fireworks and firecrackers, burn bamboo sticks
and make as much noise as possible to chase off evil spirits.

FIREWORKS! GUNG HAY FAT CHOY!

NOTE: The lunar year of the Rooster starts on January 28th.
The “Start of Spring” is February 3rd according to the Chinese solar calendar.

The first day is also a time to honor family elders and visit the oldest and most senior members of the extended families (parents, grandparents and great-grandparents).

For Buddhists the first day is also the birthday of Maitreya Bodhisattva, the Buddha-to-be. They also abstain from killing animals and meat consumption on the first day.

“May you realize all your ambitions”

According to ancient Chinese superstition, lighting fires and using knives is considered bad luck on New Year’s Day, so all food is usually cooked beforehand. It is also considered bad luck to use a broom during the New Year’s celebration.

fireworks

FIREWORKS! HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!

Usually the best way to avoid bad luck is to wear red, but because the fire element for 2017 is RED, do not use red in your clothes and accessories! Red colored stones like ruby, garnet and pink topaz should also be avoided. Instead, use colors that complement red and the fire element. Earth colored items (browns or yellows) are most suitable. Purple and lavender colors will also be lucky. Amethyst and topaz will bring luck and success.

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year!

NOTE: There are 13 lunar months instead of 12, and 384 days in 2017. To keep the Chinese lunar calendar within half a month of the traditional solar calendar, there’s a leap month (a second lunar month 6 starting July 23rd) in The Year of the Rooster.

The Chinese Zodiac:

d399ceda2120452d80463134

The Chinese zodiac is a recurring 12-year cycle. Each year is represented by one of 12 animals. Sorry Roosters, those in their birth-sign year will supposedly have bad luck.

NOTE: You will need to work hard and be patient to achieve your goals this year! Maintain a positive frame of mind. Meditation will help keep you calm and serene.
