CORONAVIRUS! Part 40

HAPPY MONDAY! Good Morning! Are the fires out yet?
You’d hardly know this country was burning all weekend.

Los Angeles County remain under CURFEW from 6:00pm – 6:00am
Other areas have curfews at 1:00pm and 4:00pm today (like Santa Monica)

“Don’t have to be ashamed of the car I drive
I’m just glad to be here happy to be alive”
– The Traveling Wilburys

BlackLivesMatters cancelled a planned protest in the Hollywood area, but there are protests happening in other locations around town and in Southern California.

We woke up and fed the dogs. And we went outside a few times.
And we got the newspapers, the mail, and the morning deliveries.
And we took a shower. And we cleaned the bathtub…. for a bath later.

92439123_1216567998719680_9141907193128288256_o

We ate a couple English muffins with peanut butter and raspberry jam
and drank two cups of espresso with MochaMix. It’s around 2:00pm already.

FUCKERY OF THE DAY:
We tried to get a rescheduled phone appointment with our Doctor who cancelled on us yesterday… actually they called us again, and they gave us a phone appointment with a different Doctor, who we have never seen or even met, and he tried to call us from a blocked private number, so it went to voicemail, and we didn’t get a call.
So now we are waiting for the appointment people to call us back so we can reschedule the call we missed because they didn’t tell us the Doctor would be calling from his home.
And we changed the setting on our phone, pretty much guaranteeing we’ll get called from idiots who can’t figure out an area code or keypad.

And the construction continues…. hammering, nail guns, heavy equipment, backup alarms (BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP) and a lot of yelling in Spanish.

AND THEN THIS HAPPENED
and FUCKERY OF THE DAY WENT TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL!

Protesters at the White House were tear-gassed, shot with rubber bullets, and beaten by Park Police and Uniformed Secret Service with help from the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police without warning so Trump could make an insane fascist speech and “dominate the streets” for a ridiculous Photo Op holding a bible upside-down at the church across the street.

EZdsXsUUEAAHyZZ

TRUMP WILL VIOLATE YOUR CIVIL RIGHTS FOR A PHOTO OP!
(ps. You’re holding the Bible upside down Donny)

EZewJD-XkAAm_He

Hitler and Twitler, the Twitter Troll

Why did the chicken cross the road?
To trespass on church property, for a publicity stunt.

TRUMP CREATED AN INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT WHEN PARK POLICE ATTACKED THE AUSTRALIAN PRESS! A news crew from Australia was attacked without cause like other members of the media and the peaceful protesters they were reporting on so Trump could have a Photo Op! This is a clear violation of United States civil rights and the First Amendment. He also used the Church and the Bible for partisan politics.

78133129_10156844627345583_2750908793398231040_n

Some Police Departments DID NOT get the message.

We have seen horrible pictures of severe injuries to peaceful protesters caused by rubber bullets, pepper balls, and tear gas canisters, which we don’t want to share here. And  WHY DO ALL THESE POLICE DEPARTMENTS HAVE MILITARY ASSAULT UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT AND ENDLESS ROUNDS OF TEARGAS TO USE ON PEOPLE WHEN SCHOOLS AND HOSPITALS DON’T HAVE ENOUGH SUPPLIES OR PPE?

And there was a protest in Hollywood and one in Van Nuys in the San Fernando Valley, even though they were supposed to be cancelled…. and so there was LOOTING in Hollywood and Van Nuys too. The Los Angeles Police Department adjusted their tactics and arrested a lot of the looters, along with any protester out after curfew. There was a lot of damage, and a couple fires, but after five days they finally figured out how to close the streets to trap them. But they still caused a lot of damage and loss today.

They’re looting the Gower Gulch Rite Aid in Hollywood on TV!
Cops arrived fast, just the organized gang folks got stuff.
Really funny when the cops show up and there are people coming out the door.

Looters at the Rite-Aid at Gower Gulch in Hollywood

Don’t be inside when the cops arrive. Looters got arrested at last! The police were able to catch people inside businesses and they were ready to go after them Monday, instead of letting them run wild and destroy with impunity.

Suspects in Custody after TWO High Speed Pursuits Tonight!

LAPD is tracking and chasing down looters – second pursuit tonight!
They are trapping the looters, stopping them in their cars, searching them for stolen property, making arrests and impounding their vehicles.
They are also arresting anyone on the streets.

Screen Shot 2020-06-01 at 21.09.25

Looters and Their Vehicles in LAPD Custody in Hollywood!

How long can they hold this country under Curfew?
The protests will continue and will increase in size and frequency!
The anger only escalates as Trump incites violence and chaos in our streets.
ATTACKING PROTESTERS WILL NOT DE-ESCALATE THE ANGER!

White Supremacists and Outside Instigators have been identified within the protests, and bad elements are using the events as cover for their criminal behavior. There are also people questioning whether piles of bricks are being placed to provide ammo so the authorities can move in on protesters and label them as violent.

‘Matthew Lee Rupert, 28, of Galesburg, Illinois, was taken into custody on Monday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. He’s been charged with civil disorder, possession of unregistered explosives, and participating in and organizing riots….The federal complaint against Rupert cites videos that he live-streamed on Facebook in which he brags about renting hotel rooms in Minneapolis and rioting. In one video cited in the complaint, Rupert is allegedly seen handing out explosives and encouraging protesters to throw them at police.” – VICE.COM

AND PEOPLE ARE STILL SICK! AND THEY ARE NOT SOCIAL DISTANCING AT ALL!

CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC!
Will there be a SPIKE after the protests? OF COURSE!
No Social Distancing! So many people without masks in close contact!
Police and protesters exposing each other, confined prisoners held for arrest, police lined up next to each other…. THEY ARE ALL GOING TO BE SICK IN 2-14 DAYS!
Cases were already increasing with the premature “re-opening”, and now this.

As of Tuesday June 2, 2020:
54900+ Reported Cases and 2350+ Reported Deaths in Los Angeles County
4250+ Reported Deaths in California
107000+ Reported Deaths in the United States
371000+ Reported Death Worldwide

PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM “ANTIFA”
IN RESPONSE TO THE THREATS ISSUED BY
UNITED STATES PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

Dear Mr. Trump:
Let us be perfectly clear:
“Antifa” isn’t an organization.
There’s no membership, no meetings, no dues, no rules, no leaders, no structure. It is, literally, an idea and nothing more.
Even the claim of this author to represent “Antifa” is one made unilaterally for the purposes of this communication and nothing more;
there is no governing body nor trademark owner to dispute the author’s right to represent “AntiFa.”
“Antifa” is a neologism constructed from a contraction of the phrase “anti-fascist.”
The truth is, there’s no such thing as being “anti-Fascist.”
Either you are a decent human being with a conscience, or you are a fascist.
The ostensible president of the United States has, today, openly declared that he is a fascist, and that he intends to turn the military power of the United States into a fascist tool.
Now there is no question,
and we can stop pretending that this man represents anything but the worst in humanity, which his supporters embody. And that is the only effect his words will have.
It will likely be no problem for LEO to identify the author of this document, who also has maintained the “AntiFa” page on Facebook since founding it in 2017.
The author of this document is unconcerned with that inevitability because neither that author, nor this document, has been involved in a crime of any sort in any way.
But, since both the “president” and the media insist on acting as though “AntiFa” is this big, scary organization, the author supposes it’s time for “AntiFa” to make a statement.

Thus:
“AntiFa supports and defends the right of all people to live free from oppressive abuse of power, whether that power is unjustly derived from wealth, status as an employer, or political popularity. Particularly, AntiFa defends and supports the right of oppressed and marginalized people to protest, march, and engage in civil disobedience in pursuit of justice. While it is never our intent to engage in violent or destructive behavior, we cannot and will not take responsibility for telling people how they are allowed to be righteously outraged. We prefer and encourage non-violent action. We also understand that some people just aren’t feeling that nice anymore. Their feelings are entirely justified, and it is neither our role nor our privilege to tell them otherwise.
Mass civil disobedience is what happens when people say they’re hurting and whoever’s hurting them refuses to stop. Stop hurting them. Fix your broken systems.
Get real and meaningful psychological evaluations and background checks – police in some nations have to pass a more stringent test to carry pepper spray than any police department in the US, or the US military, have in place. As a direct and possibly deliberate consequence, our military and paramilitary personnel simply cannot be assumed to be fighting in the interests of the people of this country.
We’ve all seen the photos. This destruction and burning and looting is largely the behavior of outsiders; white people taking advantage of the situation both to enrich themselves by looting under cover of the protests, and to provide excuses for uncontrolled fascist elements within our military and police forces as plausible cover for killing more black, brown, and poor people without fear of sanction.
The so-called “accellerationists” who have committed to ensuring that, any time a marginalized community stands up and demands justice, construct a narrative of criminality and destruction that white bigots and affluent oligarchs who benefit from our broken system to validate their bigotry and injustice retroactively.
They are successful in this for two reasons: because people like you are easily manipulated in your banal, self-serving ignorance, and because people like you are more than happy to passive-aggressively reap the benefits of pretending to believe this destruction is the act of the oppressed.
This game has gone on for decades on an endless loop since the very dawn of the civil rights era, and we the people are saying ‘no more.’”
And that, “President” Trump, is your solution. No more.
Get the dirt out of your law enforcement and your military.
Get the dirt out of your government and administration.
Ideally, resign now and take your VP and cabinet with you; Nancy Pelosi isn’t a great deal of improvement, but she’ll only be president for a few months.
You can’t arrest 100 million of us, sir, and you would be well-advised not to try.
If you think that targeting and “making an example of” the author of this document will get you anywhere, you may rest assured that this author is more than prepared to allow his real name to be used as a rallying cry for justice and civil disobedience from coast to coast.
It is time for you and everyone who thinks like you to understand that whether black, red, brown, white, or any other color, Americans are done living in a nation of empty platitudes and broken promises.
Traditionally, this type of document is accompanied by a list of “demands.”
Here are our demands:
-Universal single payer health care, without regard for citizenship status.
-Universal basic income WITH a federal job guarantee, under which the federal government becomes the “employer of last resort.” Involuntary unemployment is a function of profiteering by fascist capitalist oligarchs who are willing to sacrifice the lives of others for their own enrichment. It must end.
-The abolition of “right to work laws” which do exactly the opposite of ensuring anyone’s right to work.
-Publicly funded higher education.
-Robust and effective social welfare programs to include child care, education, employment training and counseling, parenting skills training, and life skills training including fiscal education.
-A requirement that functional proficiency in media, political, and economic literacy be demonstrated to graduate high school.
-The creation of a publicly funded non-partisan media source to serve as the primary source of government information, to be overseen and managed day to day by a coalition of well-known communicators, political scientists, and other experts in propaganda to strip ALL bias from official information before it is broadcast.
-Federal charges of treason filed against anyone willfully and knowingly attempting to minimize public perception of the impact and risks of the coronavirus.
-Reform of whistleblower laws to ensure they have teeth, and particularly to ensure that a whistleblower, acting in good faith, is not identified to the public, ever.
In the end, Mr. “President,” the simple reality is that “AntiFa” isn’t a thing.
You can’t end it, you can’t arrest it, and you can’t silence it.
Nor, in any decent nation, would the attempt even be made.
“Antifa” means “Anti-Fascism.” The only position that opposes that is fascism. In the end, there is no “organization” that you can “declare terrorists.” You, sir, and yours, are the terrorists, and your victims are done putting up with it. America is not, in spite of having an openly admitted fascist as “president,” a fascist nation.
We’ve had wars about this.
The fascists are 0-2.
Please, Mr. “President” – let’s not try to make it 0-3? Because it will never, ever be 1-2, and none of us wants to see the death toll from your attempt to make it so.
Best Regards, “AntiFa.”

Post-Playa Depression!

Post-Playa Depression!

21728119_1955669027792987_5215233356150269314_n

Black Rock Desert, Nevada

So, it’s been a month 2 MONTHS since we got back from our road trip….

We didn’t go to the L.A. Decompression event or any of the other local “Burning Man” related post-event activities. Instead we saw Pete Townshend’s Classical “Quadrophenia” at the Greek Theatre (see our previous Blog post) and went to the L.A. County Fair.

And we bought a NEW AUTOMOBILE!

“You Get A Car!” – “You Get A Car!”

And then DEPRESSION set in….

There are almost finished Blog Posts almost ready to publish, and we can’t even finish them. We haven’t told the stories of Burning Man and the Total Solar Eclipse of the Sun.

JoshWillTravel Eclipses the Sun!

We cleaned Vanessa (the van) and cleaned a bunch of stuff and did laundry, and then cleaned a bunch of stuff including our bike (which we didn’t leave on the Playa).

21371201_1951466841546539_8909154286193253720_n

We’re still not done cleaning stuff…. and we have too much stuff.

It’s raining!! It was raining briefly just now (4am Friday morning)

We were in Ashland, Oregon for a week, between the Eclipse and Burning Man, and have a few stories to tell. We lost most of our pictures from the first part of the trip when we crushed our iPhone and we’re still pretty bummed out about that.

We had such a good time on our summer trip and then we got home. We were SO HAPPY and we didn’t expect the post-adventure “return to real life” to be so difficult to process.

9 days in the desert and other “interesting” experiences during our 3 weeks on the road.

We haven’t been able to get stuff done. Feeling sad and lonely all the time….
except for our three dogs, who are our constant loyal and loving companions.

The current Government and political climate are also contributing to our depression and anxiety. There is no end in sight. We don’t even want to talk about it or blog about it.

We cooked a nice dinner tonight (Thursday).

On The Menu: Stirfry shrimp, sautéed asparagus, brown&wild rice and an iced espresso

What’s for Dinner?

That’s all for now.
It’s Saturday afternoon, I’m going out on this beautiful day.
Posted on Monday Morning.

p.s. Saturday afternoon we found this painting at Goodwill while “Thrifting”:

We also found an unpriced PYREX pie plate and when I asked “how much?” they wanted $6.99, so we passed.

NOTE: Actually we found 2 Glasbake and one PYREX glass pie pans that weren’t priced and took them to the Manager who was standing nearby with a Clerk. He instructed her, “Go look these up in the Back and if they’re Pyrex jack up the price, jack it up.” This happened right in front of me. When she came back the 2 Glasbake pans were taped together and marked $4.99 and the PYREX pan was marked $6.99. So, NO THANKS.

We did buy this signed, original painting titled “Bernie Sanders and Moth Orchid” by Peter Gullerud for $7.99 though. He’s an ex-Disney animator and fine artist, who confirmed Sunday via email that it was indeed his work. SCORE!

There’s a large dining room with tables and booths along the side walls. And of course there’s a long bar, and a very nice one too. they also have a very small stage for live music on Fridays and Satudays and this was one of those nights.

We were seated in a booth without having to wait and presented with a “classic” Mexican restaurant menu and warm chips, red pepper salsa and a bean dip.

This being our first time here, we decided to compare the Fiesta platter, a favorite found on most appetizer menus.

Fiesta Platter!

We enjoyed the food! It was classic Mexican, very tasty and they have pretty good chips and salsa. The Fiesta Platter was done well, but the nachos could have been better. My dining companions enjoyed their choices as well and the prices are very reasonable! They have lots of fun cocktails and drink specials on and off the menu. We would return if we were in the neighborhood on a Saturday, but probably not on a weekday.

Barone’s Italian Restaurant in Valley Glen, California

Thursday night and time for dinner! We went for a drive to Barone’s in Valley Glen, which used to be Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks/North Hollywood. Valet parking is available ($3.50) and street parking is difficult at best, so we advise valet parking or get your food “to go”.

The restaurant’s exterior is designed like a rustic country house. Then you enter through the modern glass and metal box entryway and the wooden front door into the lobby/waiting area and an “old school” interior complete with red leather booths, faux stained glass and a beautiful long wood bar. The main dining room is very large, the side dining room is also very large and the restaurant as a whole is very large inside.

NOTE: The side dining room (which is also used as a private event space) was empty except for a large party. There’s also a small outdoor front patio that faces Oxnard Street.

They have a beautiful long wood bar in the main dining room:

The Bar at Barone’s Italian Restaurant in Valley Glen, California

It’s like stepping back in time! There aren’t a lot of restaurants in the San Fernando Valley that have managed to retain this kind of “old school” charm. It has a real “New York Little Italy” feel. The booths, the bar and even the paper Italy placemats give it that retro style.

And it’s good Italian Food! (not cheap or inexpensive, but real good Italian)

The Menu:

Barone’s has a classic Italian menu with great pizza and pasta, and then nice steaks, veal, chicken, shrimp and seafood entrees grilled on the broiler. They have a lunch menu, sandwiches, a children’s menu and a variety of desserts offerings as well.

The food is good. We enjoyed our dinner. We’ve been here before and enjoyed it. They are consistent in the quality of their food and they make a GREAT PIZZA! The service was only okay on the night of our visit. They must have been understaffed, because our server said it was busy but the restaurant wasn’t really crowded. The large party in the other room and the dinner rush at 7:30pm may have “slammed” them, but our server was absent from the dining room for long periods of time and the bussers/servers seemed distracted by the Copa Mundial soccer game between Mexico and Jamaica on the televisions at the bar. It wasn’t bad service, but it could have been much better.

Dinner at AYCE GOGI Korean BBQ Restaurant in Van Nuys

Literally, a HOLE IN THE WALL in Van Nuys, California! I was invited to dinner and just went along for the ride. And it was a fun ride! We arrived at AYCE GOGI Korean BBQ a little after 5pm and it was already crowded.

12512452_1331504910209405_2147068029845243906_n

As you enter the restaurant, there is an undecorated waiting area between the front door and the dining room proper. There are two benches, some beer signs and two pinball machines in the enclosed “waiting room”.

12814740_1331504923542737_6648071339510139625_n

Then as you pass through the second set of doors you enter a large dining room. The host desk is just inside. There are booths along the two side walls and long tables in the center. Even with the industrial fans overhead, the room was thick with smoke from the grills. We were told there was a 20 minute wait, so we decided to hang out, and then they seated us at the center of a long table after only 5 minutes.

AYCE GOGI Korean BBQ Restaurant in Van Nuys – Booth or Table?

There was a salad, dishes with an assortment of appetizers and sauces placed on the table and waiting for us when we sat down. They took our drink order and left us to look at the menu (a single sheet in a plastic standee and a beer & wine list):

Marinated Spicy Pork and Beef Bulgogi waiting to be cooked

I took some good pictures, but then the food started coming fast and furious! So, I had to focus on the food cooking on the grill while trying to eat the food on my plate, while having a conversation with my dinner companion, so the picture taking stopped.

NOTE: The dining room is very loud. There were a lot of people, they were playing music, the fans were relatively quiet but still noisy and there was a lot of action and food service happening. I wouldn’t recommend coming here for a quiet romantic dinner. This is a place that’s all about the food and the food is good. Everything else is “NO FRILLS” so don’t expect much more than a constant stream of raw marinated meats ready for grilling.

“You cook it yourself!” Beef Kalbi Cooking on the Grill

We tried a lot of different meats and our favorites were the beef bulgogi, beef kalbi and the spicy pork, although everything we ate was pretty darn good.

Too Much Food! Meat Coma… so full!

Well, we went for it! And it was a good dinner. The service was good, the food was good and certainly plentiful, and we enjoyed our dining experience very much. I would definitely go back again.

The All You Can Eat Dinner is priced at $22.95 per person after 3pm (NOTE: “If any member of a party is ordering AYCE, all members must also order AYCE”) and it’s worth it if you’re hungry and want a lot of meat. I’m pretty sure we both got our money’s worth! They also have beer, wine and sake, as well as a selection of other beverages. They have Lunch for $17.95 and there’s also an express lunch priced at $12.95 served between 11am – 3pm.

Noise and Air Traffic Complaint (to the FAA) part 3

Noise and Air Traffic Complaint (to the FAA & Congressman Brad Sherman) part 3

Dear Paul Penner, FAA David J. Moss, FAA and Brad Sherman, US Congressman

This was taken at 540pm on Tuesday June 9th. This is the third jet in an less than an hour to fly low over my house and neighborhood in Encino. There are flights like this all day, everyday!!!
I DEMAND THAT YOU STOP ALL PRIVATE JET FLIGHTS OVER THE VALLEY!!! Shut down Van Nuys and Santa Monica Airports before a tragedy occurs.
The constant overflights are an invasion into people’s privacy and the quiet enjoyment of their homes and neighborhoods.
Another Low Flying Private Jet! Third one in less than an hour.

Another Low Flying Private Jet! Third one in less than an hour. 6-9-2015 at 540pm

Thank you.

NOTE: The red and white Fire Rescue Helicopter (the really loud one) and the silver blue Police Helicopter both buzzed the house and neighborhood earlier today as well.

UPDATED Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 8pm: Two commercial jets in the last half hour!

Noise and Air Traffic Complaint (to the FAA) part 2

Noise and Air Traffic Complaint (to the FAA) part 2
Posted on Sunday May 2015

Today SEVEN World War II vintage Fighter Planes heading north and a private Gulfstream Jet without markings heading west and then turning north flew low and LOUD over my house and the neighborhood.

NOTE: I’ve found complaining to the local FAA district office is pointless. There is absolutely no follow up from the FAA bureaucracy beyond sending the complaining party a “form e-mail”. There is too much air traffic over inhabited space in Southern California. The regulations governing air traffic over Los Angeles must be reviewed and rewritten before a significant tragedy (AN AIR DISASTER or CRASH IN A RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT) occurs!

I am writing to complain about NOISE and AIR TRAFFIC over the SAN FERNANDO VALLEY (Encino) due to low flying airplanes, both commercial and private, and helicopters! In particular, low flying private jets flying into and out of VAN NUYS and SANTA MONICA. Private jets and helicopters, both public and private, pass over my house and neighborhood creating tremendous noise and drowning out all other sound. This happens everyday. It’s time to fix this problem!

Here is a new collection of recent incidents, captured on my iPhone:

NOTE: These pics are taken from my backyard. I often hear the noise, but by the time I can grab my phone and get outside, the fast moving planes and helicopter have already passed over and out of picture range.

Updated 7 April 2015. Added three more pics:

Airshow in Palmdale/Lancaster means lots of old timey planes flying in and out of Van Nuys Airport. This silver Cold War era Boeing B-29 “Superforce” Bomber flew low over the house four times over the weekend and it’s four propellor engines are very loud. In addition, there was a squad of four German World War II vintage planes that buzzed the neighborhood during the week.
