START THE MUSIC> “Count Your Blessing and Smile” – George Formby

4:20am: Well we’ve been up all morning. We just had another espresso.
The Big Dog threw up twice in the Home Office in the last hour….
FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK.
So, we cleaned it up along with a lot of swearing.

8:30am: We slept for maybe an hour…..
FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK.
The dogs got fed and went outside. We drank a cup of espresso.
We made another cup of espresso.
We ate a toasted bagel with peanut butter and raspberry jam.

hunter-s-thompson-it-never-got-weird-enough

3:45pm: We tried to sleep and got woken up twice.
We haven’t had a decent night’s sleep in a week. And we have a headache.
We drank a cup of espresso. We took the dogs outside.
We are all chillin’ in the Home Office now.

“Lou Dobbs Tonight” was cancelled by FoxNews!
2 Days after a billion dollar lawsuit was filed.

Christopher Plummer RIP (Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer CC)
December 13, 1929 – February 5, 2021
He was 91 years old (and he was Canadian, born in Toronto)
We had the privilege to meet and work with him, Chris Lemmon, and Martin Landau RIP on the feature film “Firehead” back in 1990-91. He was a great actor, a total professional, and a very nice man. May the Four Winds blow him safely home.

Government Officials in Oahu, Hawaii:
COVID-19 UK Variant – one case confirmed, today (and there are more)

How’s your Friday afternoon?
FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK.
Good Shabbos.

10:11pm: We picked up the grocery order at the market this evening.
Almost ready for Super Bowl Sunday now.
We got food and drink for the Big Game at home. STAY THE FUCK HOME!
And we might make an in-person market run before game time depending….
So the dogs got fed. And they were outside. And we ate dinner too.

On The Menu: Moroccan chicken, couscous, sautéed asparagus,
and peanut M&Ms for dessert. And later an espresso to drink.
Drink coffee. Drink water. Eat chocolate.

We are hanging’ with the dogs in the Home Office and now we are going to watch
“The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot” starring Sam Elliott
if we can turn off the YouTube. So much stuff going on.

FOOTBALL PICKS!
OUR SUPER BOWL PREDICTION: as of Friday 11pm
(we are not liable for any gambling losses, this is for amusement only!)
Kansas City Chiefs will win 23-17 (so take the UNDER)
Tom Brady will CHOKE. “The Fix Is In” (yes, we said it)
There will be a lot of money bet on Brady and Tampa Bay,
so an interception or fumble, can make a big difference in a 4 point game.
And The Weekend (without an “e”) will have a special guest…. Beyonce?
Coin toss: Tampa Bay
First Score: Kansas City
First Quarter: 14-3 Halftime: 17-10
Third Quarter: 20-17 Final Score: 23-17
First Turnover: Tampa Bay (interception)
And we’re taking Team Ruff in the Puppy Bowl

“I’m done betting on Pete Townshend” – Cousin Sal
(2-1 odds that Pete would smash his guitar during The WHO’s Halftime show)

Friday Night (Super Bowl Weekend) watching JacobsLifeInLasVegas Livestream
from The Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas:

So, here is Las Vegas (Glitter Gulch) – The Fremont Street Experience Downtown!
Super Bowl Weekend Friday night at 10:30-11:00pm and the COVID-19 Pandemic.
We’ve been saying for weeks that Las Vegas is a massive SUPER-SPREADER.
Frontline Casino and Hotel and Restaurant Workers haven’t gotten the vaccine yet.
Tourists from Los Angeles, and other parts of California, and Texas (where they don’t wear masks), and lots of other places where the CoronaVirus is not contained, travel to Las Vegas and THERE’S NO SOCIAL DISTANCING! MASK WEARING IS STILL HAPHAZARD, ALTHOUGH REQUIRED IN THE CASINOS NOW, so it’s better than it was before, but still SUPER-SPREADER. AND PEOPLE STAND AND SMOKE IN PUBLIC WITHOUT A MASK. There were a lot of Police, Sheriffs, Marshalls and other law enforcement out in force.
One Metro Bicycle Officer, wearing yellow, said he had been reassigned to Fremont Street and it was an “all hands on deck weekend” because of the Super Bowl, and the CoronaVirus.
There is also a heightened “terror watch” because of the Trumpers and large party crowds.
It made us very nervous to see the big crowds, and no operating metal detectors, or Security checkpoints/bag checks, which they had around the winter holidays and New Years.
And while there were lots of cops, the through streets and the streets around the bars and casinos outside of the covered pedestrian mall weren’t blocked off to vehicle traffic.
SORRY, NOT SORRY, THIS DOES NOT SEEM SAFE TO OUR WORRIED MIND!

And we also watched our interweb friend Damon “Smoke ‘N’ Scan” on YouTube:

STAYTHEFUCKHOME! STAYTHEFUCKHOME! STAYTHEFUCKHOME!
WEARAFUCKINGMASK! WEARAFUCKINGMASK! WEARAFUCKINGMASK!

2:30am: ———— (we worked on this Blog Post all night and into the early AM)
3;35am: ————
4:45am: Time for “The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot”
Our eyes are tired from bluescreen and typing, so we need to stop now.

9:15am: We slept a little. We woke up. We took the dogs outside.
We fed the dogs. We took the dogs outside again. We got the newspapers.
We made a cup of espresso and ate a toasted bagel with cream cheese.
OK, Saturday morning. The home heater triggered our asthma, and we woke up coughing and choking for air. We have a headache now.
FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK.

1:30pm: We tried to go back to sleep, and may have for a little bit.
Then the mobile dog groomers came. Today’s the day for the dogs to get groomed.
The big dog got a power wash, and the little dogs are getting cleaned and cut.
So there was a lot of noise and commotion when the groomers arrived, and now we are waiting for them to finish with the dogs so we can go back to bed….
Oh, we made and drank another cup of espresso too.

3:15pm: Our calm is restored. We are ready for Saturday.
And getting hyped for tomorrow…
it’s our long-standing tradition to watch “Where The Buffalo Roam” the night before.
la-la-et-buffalo-roam-jpg-20140709

Recapping Saturday Night: (we didn’t write anything until after midnight)
We took the dogs outside. And they got fed their supper.
We took the dogs outside again. And we ordered a pizza delivery.
The pizza came and we ate some. It was pretty pretty pretty good.
And we have some leftover for tomorrow and the big game too.
And then we took the dogs outside again, and we had them in Home Office.
We watched some TV and then some YouTube Livestreams and then it was late.

MV5BMGNmZDMwMjQtZWNiMS00MDQwLWE3Y2YtZmI4OWM4YzU3NDhiXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMjUyNDk2ODc@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,1761,1000_AL_
“Tickets? Passes? And a key?” – “Must be some sh*t going down somewhere.”

On The Menu: We ordered an extra-large sausage and meatball pizza.
129032155_4271164916243375_8280116042557839694_o

We didn’t watch much news today.
We also stayed away from Twitter, until late in the day,
and then we escaped the Twitter storm ASAP, before we got too worked up….
Today’s topic:
WHY IS LOUIS DEJOY STILL POSTMASTER GENERAL?
WHEN WILL PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN FORCE THE
POST OFFICE BOARD OF (Trump Stooges) TO RESIGN?

THE GOP TRAITORS (REPUBLICANS):

“Are you ready for some football?”

Sunday, February 7, 2021 – SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!
STAYTHEFUCKHOME! STAYTHEFUCKHOME! STAYTHEFUCKHOME!
Do not party with friends or family outside your bubble!

NOTE: This is a screenshot from Pompsie’s YouTube Livestream tonight.
SUCH A TEASE! STAY THE FUCK HOME! WE WISH WE WERE RIGHT THERE!
This is the Main Casino (table games) Salon for “High Rollers” and VIPs.
It was once upon a time one of our favorite places to play….
Caesars Palace used to be a world class joint
and the best Hotel and Casino in town.
But WHO LET ALL THE RIFF-RAFF IN? What happened to the class and style?
Okay, first they tried to turn it into Disneyland,
then they turned it into Disneyland for Adults,
then they forgot the first rule of running a casino in Las Vegas
(and this was told to me by a veteran pit boss way back when):
“IT’S ALL ABOUT BUTTS IN THE SEATS!”
The money is made in the casino. The HOUSE ALWAYS WINS IN THE END.
They monetized food & entertainment, and they cater to the “Burger King” crowd,
They nickel and dime the players. They even changed the rules to fix the odds.
The big corporate resorts forgot the Player’s Names and gave them plastic cards.
They took away the silver coins and gave them slips of paper with barcodes.
They added BULLSH*T RESORT FEES! They make people PAY-TO-PARK!
Clubs, and Ultra-Lounges, and Pool Parties became revenue streams.
Outside Attractions Opened…. drawing the tourists away from the casinos.
The “Law and Order” provided by the old Las Vegas Police and The Mob is gone.
CRIME, AND DRUGS, AND THE HOMELESS, AND GANG-BANGERS,
AND WORST OF ALL THE LOW-ROLLERS TOOK OVER.
Fast food joints and cheap souvenir (for big dollars) stores are inside the casinos.
They farmed out the retail space to any vendor who could pay the price.
They built huge shopping malls to maximize the square footage
and sell their “Made in China” crap to the unwashed masses.
JUST TRY TO GET A COMPLIMENTARY COCKTAIL!
OR A COMP ROOM OR COMP MEAL. “GOOD LUCK”

12:05am: Hey! We made it to Sunday.
We are chilling’ with the dogs in the Home Office just after midnight.
And it’s Super Bowl Sunday…. before it’s morning.
LOT’S OF HYPE. We made our picks. Not going to change them now.
We ate pizza, and we’ve been watching YouTube videos again.
Livestreams from Las Vegas…. SUPER-SPREADER EVENT EVERY NIGHT!

147226332_4461105277249337_1438810162235637657_o
Saturday night LiveStream from The Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas:
147126360_4461105283916003_3464495152085488892_o

12:50am: We took the dogs outside. And then we put the dogs to bed.
And we made an iced espresso. And we just ate a piece of cold pizza.
We did a lot of work recapping Saturday night and building this Blog Post.
These Blogs don’t write themselves and they don’t appear by magic….
It takes a long time to write, edit, add pics and other stuff, and then finish.
And we’ve really made it a habit to write everyday during the pandemic.
SEE OUR PREVIOUS CV! BLOG POSTS! THIS IS “PART 119”.
(it’s also our Blog’s 8th anniversary and soon we’ll reach 200000 HITS!)

4:05am: We motivated and became CHORE BOY for just a little bit.
We did a load of laundry and then we cleaned and sanitized the kitchen.
We also CERTIFIED our EDD Claim online for our first two weeks tonight.
We haven’t mailed the check request form yet, and we don’t have a Debit Card, so we are not sure what to do, because if they send a Card and we send the check request form, you just know there will be some kind of problem or delay.

5:50am: We just got busy in the kitchen: we cut some vegetables (celery and carrot sticks), decanted a big can of pineapple juice into a plastic bottle, and made a pot of mac’n’cheese with bacon for later today. And we made a cup of espresso. Drink Coffee. Drink Water.

6:20am: We woke the dogs up and took them outside.
Then we fed them their breakfast and took them outside again.
We got the newspapers. And now the sun is coming up.

Screen Shot 2021-02-07 at 10.43.08

10:15am: We tried to run two errands this morning, but only completed one.
We tried to pickup our mail at our PO Box, but the Post Office lobby was locked, and there was a posted notice about changes…. don’t know if it’s COVID or if it’s still the USPS fuckery.
So we didn’t pick up our mail….
And we made a supermarket run before the game today,
to get some things they didn’t include that we wanted and to stock up on some other things.
NOW WE ARE READY WITH FOOD AND BEVERAGE.
We heated up 3 slices of leftover pizza and ate them for breakfast with an iced espresso.
And we took the dogs outside again, and now we’re all here in the Home Office at 11:00am.

2:05pm: And we are awake again. We just took a nap. We drank a cup of espresso.
Time for the pre-Game festivities. But first, we took the dogs outside for some business.
It’s a beautiful day outside! Blue skies, totally clear, 72 degrees and sunny!
And now it’s 2:30pm! Let’s go inside and watch FOOTBALL!

Are you ready Freddy?
Are you ready for some NFL Super Bowl Football?

C’MON, YOU REALLY DON’T CARE ABOUT EITHER TEAM!
The Chiefs? Really? Tampa Bay? Really? The Buccaneers?
Tom Brady? Mahomes? Really? This entire NFL Football Season?
We get it, you got nothing else. “America’s past time.”
NFL Football and the Super Bowl is the only thing. National Holiday.
You’ll probably go apesh*t for The Weekend (without an “e”) on Monday….
AND THEY’RE HAVING IT IN FLORIDA INSTEAD OF CALIFORNIA.
And they’re going to have fans in the stands. No worries about COVID-19.
The $uper Bowl (NFL Football) is all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Sports wagering is legal now, so there’s that too. Public Health be damned.
THE TEAM OWNERS, THE CORPORATIONS, SPONSORS, NETWORKS,
AND ADVERTISERS MADE BILLIONS DURING THE PANDEMIC.
(Some teams
even got Government Pandemic Grants and Loans)

Peyton coffee

Peyton Manning was the first finalist named by the Pro Football Hall of Fame for 2021, and there is no doubt he’ll be a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer in August. They’ll make the official announcement on Saturday at the NFL Honors, before the Super Bowl on Sunday. And he’ll enter the Hall of Fame as both a Colt and Bronco. Manning is the only starting QB in NFL history to win the Super Bowl with two different teams. Manning led Denver to the playoffs in all four seasons as the Broncos’ QB during his 18 year career. When Manning retired in 2016, he held NFL records with 71940 career passing yards, 539 career passing TDs, and 13 consecutive seasons with at least 25 passing TDs. During Manning’s 2013 MVP season, he threw 55 touchdown passes for 5477 yards, breaking both NFL records!

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUPER BOWL 55!
Kickoff at 3:30pm PST
Live from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida
(How did the Tampa Bay Buccaneers get Home Field advantage?)
First time the Super Bowl is being played in one of the team’s hometown.
And because of COVID-19, the Chiefs couldn’t travel until Friday?
It seems like an unfair advantage for Tom Brady to have…. oh well.
Unknown
Watch the game: CBS, NFL Network, ESPN Deportes,
NFL Channel, CBSSports.com and the CBSSports App

Kansas City Chiefs (14-2) AFC (Patrick Mahomes QB)
30123
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (11-5) NFC (F*CK TOM BRADY!)
5228

The Chief are the better team, Tom Brady is old.
But Tom Brady and Gronkowski have experience playing in the big game.
And the Super Bowl is a different kind of rookie “pressure” situation,
so it will all hinge on Mahomes adjusting and playing his best game.
AND if “THE FIX IS IN” as we discussed in our FOOTBALL PICKS.

The Chiefs are still favored to win, and the point spread is now -3.0
The Over/Under is now 56

Science! This kid is smart!

“Mask Up America” is President Joe Biden’s “100 Day Masking Challenge”

“Face masks help prevent people who have COVID-19, including those who are pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic, from spreading the virus to others. Masks are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings. Wide use of masks especially helps protect those at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 as well as workers who frequently come into close contact with other people (e.g., in airports, seaports or other docks, bus terminals, and train stations). Using masks along with other preventive measures, including social distancing, frequent hand hygiene, and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, is one of the most effective strategies available for reducing COVID-19 transmission.” – CDC

Back from Las Vegas.
A fun trip to “Sin City”
Happy to be Home!

JOSHWILLTRAVEL! And travel to Las Vegas last week is what we did.*

*well, it wasn’t last week…. more like last month. Tempus fugit!

We were invited (very last minute) to our friend Frank’s 65th Birthday Adventure:
(via a series of text messages)
– Come to Vegas if you want we have extra rooms
– We arrive Wed and lots of different rooms. Party on Saturday
– The party at Topgolf should be good even if you dont golf. Has a private pool for us
– Then we got a big cabana by our pool Friday Saturday and Sunday

So, let me think about it….. and Road Trip to Vegas!
Left the beautiful San Fernando Valley at 1:30am on Thursday morning.
Highways to Las Vegas: 101north-134west-210west-10west-15north
We drove a rental truck, a no-frills silver Nissan Frontier, with unlimited miles.
No traffic! Driving 285 miles at night with the truckers on I-15 north.

“World’s Tallest Thermometer” in Baker, California

Stopped along the way in Baker, California, for gas and to see the “World’s Tallest Thermometer” once again lighting the side of the 15 freeway. It was “non-operational” for many years, but has been repaired and now it is again a beacon at night on the desert highway.
NOTE: Gas prices were “too f*ckin’ high” in Baker!

Arrived at South Point Hotel and Casino before 6am on Thursday.

We have always heard good things about the SouthPoint. People regularly recommend their buffet as being very good. They were also recently featured in the Showtime series “Action” about legal sports gambling, so as we rolled into town we decided to stop there.

Self Parking at SouthPoint is FREE. We parked outside, instead of in the structure, and it was only a short walk to the Casino entrance. We had to go to the High Limit Slots counter to get a Player’s Card because the Club Desk doesn’t open until 7am. We played some blackjack and a little video poker and won a little money.

We also earned 300 club points which entitled us to “spin the wheel” and we won 5000 points (so we cashed them out for $15.00), wandered around the casino, and then headed for their Breakfast Buffet.

NOTE: Get the SouthPoint Player’s Card and the Breakfast Buffet is only $9.95 + tax
(Really nice breakfast buffet for ~$11.00 + $5.00 tip for our server/waitperson)

After breakfast we headed out and drove to the Wyndham Grand Desert Resort near the MGM Grand and across the street from TopGolf at the south end of the strip.

Wyndham Grand Desert Resort

Parked near Tower 3, walked to registration at Tower 2 and Checked In.
Our friends had the rooms reserved and a quick phone call was made, our ID was checked, and we were handed a keycard and welcome instructions. We walked back to Tower 3 and met one of our friends in the lobby. She gave us the “nickel tour” of the resort property and showed us the adult pool and the cabana they had reserved for our party weekend. We walked back to Tower 3 and grabbed our luggage and weekend supplies out of the truck and rode the elevator upstairs.

The SMELL in the hall.
Okay, something died. rotting trash beyond rotting. it was terrible. really terrible.
FOR THE WHOLE TIME! It was disgusting. It reeked. It stank.
Yes, we complained. And they tried to mitigate the smell with deodorizers and sprays, but they should have called for sanitary cleanup immediately. They were really good about apologizing and they gave our hosts credit for the inconvenience.

The Sweet Suite!
Tower 3, Room 392 at the Wyndham Grand Desert Resort:

Happily, the smell was only in the hallway. Once inside the room, a “lock-out” connecting room, adjacent to the first room our hosts stayed in…. they moved to the Presidential Suite, and her brother moved into their room. More on that later.

Each room had a nice kitchen area, living room space and private bedroom and bath. Mine was a little smaller than the room next door which also had a bar and bar seating in the living room space. I was very happy with the accommodations and also the fact that it was FREE! My hosts were treated to drinks, gifts and other forms of thanks all week long in appreciation for the invitation.

After the little tour of the resort the it was nappy time. Then once we were awake and active again, we joined our friends for a quick visit to the TopGolf mega-entertainment center across the street. We met our friends in the inside bar and had a cocktail while they finished their food (we were still full from the morning buffet).

Our friend’s birthday party was scheduled for Saturday afternoon in the Chairman’s Suite, complete with private pool and lunch buffet, so they went to check it out.  More on that party later……
We wandered around and toured the massive four deck facility. There were lots of bar and seating areas, and a public pool area with lounges, private cabanas and a “swim-up” bar. There were televisions and monitors everywhere, and really big multi-screens by the pool and in the gathering and game areas. And there were a ton of people having fun at midday on Thursday! The Golf Area has private driving areas for rent, with computer monitoring, that tracks your ball and gives you distance, replay, and other fun golf info. And of course there is plenty of food and beverage service available everywhere.
Just mind the warning signs and watch for errant golf balls and clubs!

And then back across the street to the resort.
Our friends moved their stuff to the Presidential Suite with a Private Veranda and we hung out there and waited for them to get settled in.

FRIDAY at the Wyndham

Good morning! Cabana Time!
Our Large Private Party Cabana in the shade for Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

60336680_2832756416750906_4732896785863802880_n

Large Private Party Cabana in the shade for Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday began the same way each day: Tiki drinks for brunch! And some kind of food from the resort kitchen, along with snacks we brought from the room.

CLICK ON ANY SMALL PIC TO SEE A LARGER PIC AND VIEW THE GALLERY
AND THEN CLICK AGAIN TO VIEW THE PIC AT FULL SIZE!

The cabana was equipped with a nice television and a noisy ceiling fan, and the public smoking area was right next door and there was a public cabana in that area. Most of the pool cabanas were positioned in the sun, and must have been really hot inside, while our cabana was on the other side and in the shade set back but facing the adult pool area.

Dinner time on Friday, and we had a meeting in the Presidential Suite to decide where to go to eat. There are many choices, so the group reviewed them, and eventually decided to go to Burger Bar (inside the Luxor Hotel, which we didn’t know at the time).

NOTE: Everything we did took a long time to get it together and actually do it. It wasn’t a problem, and we resolved to just ride along and see what happens (most of the time).

And then it started raining. A real Desert Storm! And a wet Friday night.
One of our new friends was the non-drinking designated driver, and he was a cool dude. But his driving was not cool. And it was dark and wet and it took a long time to get there. And then we toured the parking lot, for a long time, before finally parking.

We made our way into the Luxor and found the Burger Bar. Basically a $20 hamburger without anything else, so we decided to go spend our money at The Peppermill instead.

A good time was had by all! We enjoyed our dinner and drinks at The Peppermill. Frank had a big Scorpion drink (in a glass, not a bowl) and the rest of us had a few different drinks from their cocktail menu too.

One more drive around Vegas in the rain and back to the resort. We survived! We returned to the Presidential Suite and then back to our suite in the other tower. We decided to take a hot bath and then sleep in the next day.

The party was a lot of fun, we got out drink on, and there was too much food! We ended up taking a lot of it back to the resort afterwards. There was golfing (unlimited balls, or something like that) and swimming too. The pictures are just a sample before it got crazy wild.

A beautiful day at TopGolf Las Vegas!

Saturday Night in Vegas!

And so we returned to the resort and hung out until it got dark. We decided our next destination would be (more) Tropical Cocktails at Frankie’s Tiki Room!

Saturday Night on the Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada

After the wild road trip on Friday night, we decided we would drive to Frankie’s and meet the crew there. We cruised past The Strip and downtown to the bar.

More cocktails! Famous tiki drinks! And it was really dark inside.
Here are some pics:

We enjoyed a Mai Tai and then there was a lot of conversation and more drinks. We moved around from our table in the cabana to a seat at the bar. Lots of kitsch and weird decor to see, even in the dark. Eventually, they decided to return to the resort and we decided to go back to The Strip and have some Las Vegas fun.

We drove to The Wynn, Las Vegas Hotel and Casino – FREE SELF PARKING!

The Wynn is a beautiful property! And it was crowded, which was nice. We played a little and wandered around taking in the different areas of the casino and environs. We had some luck and cashed out and drove back to the resort and went to bed.

SUNDAY (Mother’s Day) morning after waking up and getting ready, we walked over to the Presidential Suite for Breakfast/Brunch and more Cabana Time! It was a leisurely day of drinking and hanging out. There may have been an afternoon nap involved.

So we were volunteered to cook and we grilled some steaks for dinner at 9:30pm on Sunday at the community BBQ Grills. There’s a curfew for cooking at 10pm, so we had to be quick! We took them upstairs and enjoyed a great meal on the private veranda (and of course, there were more cocktails).

“The rounded diamond shape of the sign was inspired by the Goodyear logo and the idea for the starburst came from the one in Disneyland’s emblem, which to her meant a happy destination. The seven silver dollars were a symbol of good luck for visitors entering the world’s gambling capital. (Betty) Willis’s design was never trademarked.”

The sign was built by a small local company Western Electric Displays Inc, aka Western Neon. Western Neon was bought by YESCO (Young Electric Sign Company) and they have maintained the sign ever since. The original sign has been rebuilt, restored, and recognized as a cultural and historic landmark for the City of Las Vegas over the years.

Safe and legal public access to the sign was finally made possible in 2008, when parking spaces and a pedestrian walkway were finally constructed. Clark County and the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office had the sign listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

NOTE: It was “Helldorado Days” a big holiday in the State of Nevada. There was a parade on Saturday and the Rodeo and other events were happening all weekend in downtown Las Vegas and on Fremont Street. So, we didn’t go there.

Old Vegas! Glitter Gulch!

We returned to the resort and stayed up until MONDAY morning!
“It’s HOT in the Hot Tub!”
And sometime before dawn we hit the Jacuzzi and Pool! (the pool and jacuzzi at Tower 3 are open 24 hours) It was very Early AM, at Tower 3, after it was cleaned, before the crowd and we were almost alone.

We had stayed up all night and after our adventures we finally decided to try out the 24 hour pool and jacuzzi in our Tower. The pool area was empty except for one couple, so we waited until they were out of the water and then we moved in. We spent about a half hour enjoying the warm, bubbly spa, and swam in the cool pool until the calm was interrupted by two small children and their mother….. as we left the pool area at 6am the mother was screaming at the children in the shallow end of the pool, “Get over here dammit, you pulled this sh*t all yesterday, I’m not gonna have it today!”

Went up to the room and took a hot shower, ate some leftover tacos, and went to bed.
Requested and was given a late checkout time of 12 noon via the telephone.

And then,
Housekeeping knocked on my door three different times between 9:30 and 11am!
AND THERE WAS A “DO NOT DISTURB” SIGN HANGING ON THE DOOR HANDLE!
They also started cleaning the other half of the “lockout suite” and made noise like they were doing construction next door, making it impossible to sleep.

NOTE: We complained and Dan, the resort manager, gave us a $50 credit to use at our choice of restaurants “off-property” at a Caesars Hotel (there was a list of restaurants to choose from at each hotel) for our inconvenience and also took care of our friends who invited us. That’s real good hospitality!

Checked out of the Wyndham and drove back over to the Wynn. FREE Self Parking again.

We walked to the Palazzo and Venetian, then went outside, crossed Las Vegas Blvd and went over to the Mirage. It was a beautiful day, but it was too hot of course.

We visited the MLife desk, and asked about a MyVegas room rate. They offered us a Monday night room for $63.00 + taxes and the ridiculous resort fee, so we passed.

We walked through the Forum Shops to Caesars Palace and enjoyed the weirdness!

Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino was once the best place to stay and play in Las Vegas. Then they turned it into “Disneyland”, and they threw away all the class and quality that made it great. And then they added RESORT FEES and PAID PARKING.

We went to Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill and got a seat a the bar, but when we looked at the menu there was nothing that we wanted to order…. so we thanked them and left. We wandered around Caesars enjoying the sights while trying to decide where to eat.

The Bar and Sportsbook at Caesars Palace Las Vegas

Then we decided on dinner at Rao’s Italian Kitchen, Las Vegas at Caesars Palace!

On The Menu: Good bread, an excellent Caesar salad and their tasty meat lasagna.
We ate the salad and half of the lasagna and bread, and had the other half packed “to go”.
No drinks or wine because we were driving later, so only ice water with dinner.

It was getting dark after dinner, so we started walking back, watched the sunset behind Caesars Palace across the street, and then stopped at Harrah’s and the old Casino Royale on The Strip.

And then we walked back to the Wynn. We enjoyed our after dinner walk at night and took in the sights along The Strip on our way back. We returned to our car and hit the road. Destination: Los Angeles.

Stopped at the new Mega-Gas Station Terrible’s Road House on the way back to California and filled up the gas tank and emptied mine. They have 100 pumps for “rush hour”, but the place was almost empty when we stopped in around 10pm on Monday night.

It was a quick stop, with lots of light and easy highway access. After getting gas, we took some pics and then got back in the rental truck and made a non-stop, no traffic, night drive back to Los Angeles. Home again before 2am. Had a really fun trip!

A couple more travel answers about Las Vegas

A couple more travel answers about Las Vegas:

Q: Best Buffet for the money in Vegas? I’m heading to Vegas and naturally looking for the best all you can eat buffets that will put all other buffets to shame. What are your favorites and why? ~ Cameron W., Los Angeles

A: Best Buffet in Las Vegas?

The Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace, The Buffet at Bellagio, and The Buffet at Wynn are three of the best ($$$). I also like the Flavors Buffet at Harrah’s which is less expensive and has a huge variety of good things on the menu (and you can usually find coupons for Flavors and save $5 per person on the regular $18-$30 price)

NOTE: I ate at the MGM Grand buffet last year and it was TERRIBLE! It was the worst buffet I’ve ever eaten at in Vegas. The food looked good but literally everything was cold and tasteless…. I would also advise avoiding the buffet at Circus Circus.

Q: Which hotel would you choose?

Having some difficulty choosing my hotel for my next trip to Vegas.  I actually have a reservation at the newer SLS hotel but am hesitant about it. Hesitant simply because it’s on the North side of the strip which I don’t usually stay. Everything I want to do/see is on the South end. So do I try out the newer hotel with a really nice room or go with something else location wise? Which would you choose and why? ~Karen H., Maryland

SLS –  Lux Deluxe King – Corner High Floor With extra wind – got a great Cyber Monday deal on the room at 1/2 off the regular price.  Price $122 per night

Tropicana –  either a 1 KING BALCONY W/POOL VIEW – BUNGALOW or 1 KING 2 ROOM SUITE – CLUB TOWER Suite.  price either $88 or $100 per night

Treasure Island –  Petite Suite or Tower Suite at $98 per night or $115 per night.

A: SLS Las Vegas Hotel, Tropicana Las Vegas, or Treasure Island?

The Tropicana has the advantage of being across the street from the MGM Grand Las Vegas (lots of great restaurants just don’t eat at the buffet) and monorail adjacent (which will save you time and money). Spend the extra money on the Suite and ask them to waive the resort fee. Get a monorail pass and you have transit access to Bally’s & Paris, the Flamingo & Caesar’s, Harrah’s & the Linq, and the other “center Strip” hotels: Mirage, Bellagio, Monte Carlo, the Venetian, etc. And also off-strip to the Westgate (Las Vegas Hilton) and SLS (the Sahara) at the north end.
