Vista Point – Benecia, California

“Do you know the way to San Jose? I forgot my map from Triple A!”

Coming south on our Oregon roadtrip from Winters on the 505 freeway and Highway 80, there was too much traffic going into San Francisco! We should have stopped in Napa & Sonoma wine country, but instead took the 680 freeway towards San Jose. There’s a great Vista Point in Benecia at the Lake Herman Rd exit so we decided to stretch our legs and take in the view.

Benicia is a waterside city in Solano County, California, United States. It served as the state capital for nearly thirteen months from 1853 to 1854. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area along the north bank of the Carquinez Strait, Benicia is just east of Vallejo and across the strait from Martinez.

Connections to Benicia include Interstate 680 from Martinez to the south and Cordelia Junction (Fairfield) to the north, and Interstate 780, Columbus Parkway, and other local roads from Vallejo to the west. Amtrak runs past the city north towards Sacramento, but the nearest train station is in Martinez across the Carquinez Strait. Amtrak and the Union Pacific Railroad cross the strait alongside the Benicia–Martinez Bridge.

Fog on the Golden Gate Bridge! August Road Trip to Oregon!

Fog!

Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge from Marin county to San Francisco on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Fog on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco

Well, it was a beautiful day in Marin with great weather and blue skies. San Francisco was totally “socked in” in the fog as soon as you hit the Rainbow tunnel. I love that the tourists still walk the bridge with almost zero visibility.

There is still a toll to enter the city from Marin, and they don’t take cash or have toll takers! You have to pay by “fasttrak” or by credit card online, otherwise they’ll invoice you…. F*CKERS! (another reason to hate San Francisco)

I have returned from my August 2015 Road Trip to Ashland, Oregon. On the return trip, I decided to cut over to the coast on Saturday afternoon through Marin and San Francisco and take Pacific Coast Highway to Santa Cruz.

Tell me you’re the heart of all the golden west

San Francisco, welcome me home again

09-Mar-13: Lithia Park, Ashland, Oregon

Lithia Park in January:

Lithia Park is the largest and most central park in Ashland, Oregon. It consists of 93 acres of forested canyonland around Ashland Creek, stretching from the downtown plaza up toward its headwaters near Mount Ashland. Its name originates from the lithium oxide found in the stream water.  The park has two large green area, a bandshell for public musical performances, two duck ponds, a large playground, tennis courts, community buildings and, in winter, an ice skating rink. It also offers picnic areas and miles of hiking trails.  The park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
