National Radio Day!
(“Testing, testing.”)

Raise awareness about illness and disease caused by mosquitos!
Mosquitoes cause more death & disease than any other animal on the planet!

Malaria, Dengue, Yellow Fever, Japanese Encephalitis, West Nile Chickungunya, Kunjin Jamestown Canyon Virus, Zika, Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis, St Loius Encephalitis, Pogostra Disease, Ross River Virus, Lymphatic Filariasis, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Murray Valley Encephalitis, Rift Valley Fever, Lacrosse Encephalitis, and the list goes on.
On this day in 1897, Sir Ronald Ross discovered the malaria parasite
in the stomach tissue of a female Anopheles mosquito.

“what a long, strange trip it’s been”

7:20am: We got a pursuit on the 605 Freeway this morning!
Guy hit 120mph. The chase didn’t last long.
He got off the freeway and drove down a cul-de-sac,
foot-bailed and ran through a couple backyards, jumping fences,
and out onto another cul-de-sac where he ran into the police.
He surrendered. Suspect in custody.

We took the dogs outside. And now we have to do the morning stuff.
We’re already running late today, and we really don’t have anything to do.

After becoming a cult science fiction comedy series on BBC Radio, "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams

Here author Douglas Adams poses holding a copy of the book which has “Don’t Panic” written on the front cover. 29th November 1978. (Photo by Daily Mirror/Mirrorpix/Mirrorpix via Getty Images)

On this day in 1920, the first commercial radio station,
8MK (now WWJ), began operating in Detroit!
And the National Football League (NFL) is organized as the
American Professional Football Conference in Canton, Ohio!

Breaking Entertainment News! What is “You Ain’t Got No Job?”
Screen Shot 2021-08-11 at 15.45.14
Mike Richards resigned this morning as “Jeopardy” host after one day of production, and currently remains Executive Producer. The ADL is calling for an investigation into Richard’s past remarks about Jews, women, and Asians, as well as his involvement with “The Price Is Right” sexual harassment history. Sony Pictures Television has cancelled production, until a new Host decision can be made.

11:10am: Watching President Joe Biden’s press conference on Afghanistan.
Joe just gave them the soundbite. “The buck stops here, it was my decision”
TOTAL FAIL. And this press conference is a TOTAL FAIL too.
MORE DISTRACTION FROM THE TRUMP AND THE GOP TRAITORS.
AND WTF? NO MAKEUP? AND DON’T LET JOE BIDEN GO OFF SCRIPT!

We took the dogs outside. We fed the dogs. We took the dogs outside.
We drank a double iced espresso. We ate a toasted bagel with cream cheese.
We got busy in the kitchen for a little bit. Makin’ Bacon:

And we took the dogs outside again.
The exterminator was here.
They were barking like good watchdogs.
And the roofers are almost finished across the street.
It’s a beautiful day. We were going to run errands…..
But now we’re chillin’ in the Home Office again.

TravelAlert-614x201

Bad weather? Missed Flight? Travel Emergency? COVID-19?

TRAVEL ALERT!
American Airlines extends alcohol ban in Coach class into 2022.
And Southwest Airlines still has an alcohol ban in place.
SOUTHWEST AIRLINES APOLOGIZED TODAY FOR
SCHEDULE CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS LAST WEEK. HAHAHAHA!
We’re laughing because it’s ridiculous to apologize for TOTAL FAILURE.

The US extended the ban on non-essential travel to Canada until September 21.
And so the US-Canada Border remains closed to travelers for the near future.

HURRICANE HENRI (Category 1) IS ON THE EAST COAST!
Going to suck in New England, so don’t go there.

COVID-19 ANXIETY RISING IN THE US DUE TO DELTA VARIANT SURGE.
Hospital ICUs in Alabama are at 100%. Major outbreaks in southern states.
Texas hospitals are overwhelmed too.

Los Angeles and Orange County are sending kids back-to-school in classrooms.
WTF? THERE IS NO REAL EFFORT TO STOP THE VIRUS FROM SPREADING!

Fun Fact:
The Kilauea Volcano adds 42 acres to the Big Island Hawaii every year!

12:15pm: It’s Friday Afternoon.

NOTE: We got dressed and ready to go run our errands
and then got hit by the “Friday Fuckits”…. and we didn’t do anything.
None of our errands was urgent except the going to the market to get food.
But we got some food for tonight, and the market is open until ~1:00am.
We got undressed again and spent the afternoon with the dogs.

JoshWillTravel: ZZZZZZZZZZ (nappy time)

6:20pm: We woke up. We made a double iced espresso.
We ate another toasted bagel with cream cheese.
We prepped the dogs’ supper. Now it’s time to feed the dogs.

7:05pm: We took the dogs outside. We fed the dogs.
We took the dogs outside. Supper+snacks+carrot = Happy Pups!
We drank that double iced espresso down. Now it’s Friday night.
Another week – HOT SUMMER DAYS and COVID-19. This sucks.
We are so unmotivated right now…. almost nothing matters.
DON’T GET SICK. DON’T DIE. (StayTheFuckHome!)

8:30pm: Friday night. Nothing happening.
Just listening/watching LIVE MUSIC this evening.

8:50am: Woken up by the dogs barking before 8:00am. FUCK.
We drank a cup of espresso. Saturday morning again.
The dogs got fed. The dogs went outside. The newspapers got got.

11:35am: We made Saturday brunch. The mail got got.
On The Menu: Toasted bagel with lox, cream cheese and Persian cucumber;
dill pickle, carrot sticks, pita chips, strawberries, and an iced espresso to drink

JoshWillTravel: ZZZZZZZZZZZZ NappyTime with the Dogs.

4:20pm: We took a nap with the dogs. We woke up. We made an iced espresso.
We worked on this Blog Post.
We watched a few episodes of “Fluffy’s Food Adventures” on Amazon Prime.
Gabriel Iglesias is hilarious. And they eat a whole lot of great food.

On this day in 1911, the Mona Lisa (painted by Leonardo da Vinci) was stolen from the
Louvre Museum by three Italian handymen; it was not recovered until 1913.

9:45pm: And Saturday night. Recapping Saturday evening.
We ordered dinner. We got dressed and drove over to pick it up.
We drove home and ate dinner. The dogs went outside. The dogs got fed.

On The Menu: CPK (California Pizza Kitchen) takeout.
BBQ Chicken salad w/avocado (full size), and a Hawaiian pizza w/pepperoni, no ham.
And cran-raspberry-orange juice to drink. And then another iced espresso.
We ate the salad at 7:00pm and saved the pizza for later tonight.

First, Don’t try to order online. The website is a mess. We telephoned the order in.
But we got sent to a voice message system…. high volume, long wait.
So, we called the other restaurant too, and it was the same deal.
and then chose the option to have them call us back.
So, someone called us back, from a third party service, not the restaurant.
and they took our order and then placed our order with the restaurant. WTF?
We joined the CPK Rewards Card too. So, we should be getting a BONUS too.
And we want to make sure we get credited reward points for this order.
And all we wanted was dinner. SO COMPLICATED. Technology is not your friend.

FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK
And of course, it’s National Senior Citizens Day too.

Dinner was good.
We watched TV, we surfed the internet, we worked on this Blog Post,
and we watched YouTube vids and Livestreams! Fun. Fun. Fun.

There was a Saturday backyard party on the corner of our street with
loud electronic dance music that started around sunset and didn’t end until after 1:00am.
WOMP. WOMP. WOMP. WOMP. All night. Happy birthday.

John McAfee RIP…. Jeffrey Epstein did not kill himself.
McAfee “committed suicide” in a Spanish prison? REALLY?
Is it a conspiracy theory if the victim predicts his own death?
NOTE: It already appears that the mainstream media is just going to bury the story.
DO YOU TRUST THE US GOVERNMENT TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH?

Was he an “Enemy of the State” or did he just know too much about certain people?
And what about Jeffrey Epstein? And the Deutsche Bank Banker? Suicides? Really?

Friday, June 25, 2021 – It’s the Last Friday of the Month!

It’s Anthony Bourdain Day! Today would have been his 65th birthday. The celebrity chef, author, world traveler, and TV personality killed himself on June 8, 2018.
172851611_10164828830585104_5054120128163087325_n

On this day in 1876, Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer FAILED.
The 7th United States Cavalry was defeated by Sioux and Cheyenne Warriors at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in the Montana Territory (aka “Custer’s Last Stand”).
There were 268 dead and 55 severely wounded U.S. soldiers (and others) when the battle was over.

4:55am: It’s Friday morning! Have a nice day.
smiley 11
It’s the weekend.
Not that anything is any different from the rest of the week.
It’s going to be HOT here, maybe 100 degrees on Sunday.

7:35am: And we took the dogs outside. We fed the dogs. We took the dogs outside.

Remember that cow that went missing after they escaped from the slaughterhouse?
They found it yesterday morning in Whittier Narrows park.
OKAY, WTF? Diane Warren (Hollywood Elite) is going to pay to send it to a sanctuary.
And a bunch of a**holes are now protesting outside the meatpacking plant,
because they want the other 38 cows to be “pardoned” instead of becoming steaks.
Seriously, fuciking cows and people protesting meat are big news in Los Angeles……..
And MORE Britney Spears court news…

RECORD HEAT! EXTEME DROUGHT! “We’re having a heat wave.”

Be glad you’re not in southern Oregon or the Pacific Northwest this week!
But seriously, it’s going to be dangerously HOY in a lot of places. so STAY COOL!
Take care of your family, friends, and pets. Young and elderly people are most at risk.

Tokyo 2020 2021 update.

The XXXII Olympiad (Summer Olympic Games)

The Olympics were postponed for the first time in history in 2020.
There are 33 sports and 339 events scheduled at 42 venues.

Athletes don’t have to be vaccinated. Participants will be tested daily.
A poll in the Asahi Shimbun newspaper showed
80% of the population want the Olympics cancelled or postponed.
And the newspaper also wants the IOC and the organizers to cancel the games.
Japanese Emperor Naruhito also thinks it’s a bad idea.

12:30pm: We took the dog outside. We had to do some grooming too.
We played with the dog. We loved the dog. We love the little boy.
Now he’s napping next to us in the Home Office.

On The Menu: Fresh strawberries and whipped cream
with a slice of banana bread and an iced espresso to drink

We drank iced espresso. We enjoyed the air conditioning. It was HOT out.

Saturday, June 26, 2021 –

NOTE: We got dressed and drove to the restaurant.
We talked to the staff (our friends) at the restaurant and drove home.
We ate dinner while watching LIVE MUSIC on the desktop.

There was a pursuit that ended when the guy hit the barrier between the carpool lane and the freeway head-on at high speed. He destroyed the truck in a spectacular wreck, spun out, rolled it, and landed in the carpool lanes. Then he crawled out of the wreckage (unhurt) and surrendered to the Highway Patrol. Yeah Saturday Night!

And now back to SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!

12:10am: And we fell asleep after dinner…. and woke up around 10:00pm.
We took the dog outside. And now we’re back in the Home Office.

5:15am: We slept a little. We woke up around 4:00am.
We took the dog outside and made a cup of espresso.

NATIONAL SUNGLASSES DAY!

I study nuclear science, I love my classes
I got a crazy teacher, he wears dark glasses
Things are going great, and they’re only getting better
I’m doing all right, getting good grades
The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades

BUY AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS!
BOYCOTT PRODUCTS MADE IN CHINA AND MEXICO!

It also used to be NATIONALHANDSHAKE DAY, but that was before COVID-19.

6:20am: A couple of raccoons were just fighting in the trees in the backyard!
The dogs went nuts and started barking. The coons were hissing and squealing.
We got to watch them fight and shake the trees. RACCOONS ARE REALLY NASTY!
So there was a little excitement already today.

8:20am: We took the dogs outside. We fed the dogs.
The little girl isn’t eating her food for the second day…. and we’re a little worried..
We took the dogs outside again and made a double espresso with whipped cream.

NATIONAL ONION DAY and NATIONAL ORANGE BLOSSOM DAY.

1:20pm: We had the dogs in the Home Office and now they’re in the bedroom.
We just ate a toasted cheese sandwich and we made an iced espresso to drink.
And it is AFRICA HOT outside today.
And it’s going to be HOT in the SFV all week long.

NATIONAL BOMB POP DAY and NATIONAL ICE CREAM CAKE DAY!
“I scream! You scream! We all scream, for ice cream!”

10:50pm: Recapping our Sunday. Nothing happened.
The dogs got fed. The dogs went outside.
We didn’t eat dinner. We fell asleep around 8:00pm!
We just woke up and ate a handful of grapes.
And we decided to update this Blog Post.

ORDER UP! Place your order at the counter. Know what you want to order in advance! There is a big menu board. The menu is pretty simple: Burgers, sandwich variations on a burger bun (albacore tuna, tri-tip steak & chicken), salads, kids meals, sides, drinks and real milkshakes.

We recommend you speak loud and clear when ordering, and that you listen when they read the order back really fast. Why? Because they get the order wrong about 50% of the time…. Whatever the reason, the communication or the order between the register and the kitchen area is messed up. They use a ticket/receipt system, and somehow the cooks mess up the order half the time. And then they check the order at the ready counter and then read it back when they hand you the food at pickup, so you would think they could get it right.

AND SOMEHOW THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD ALWAYS BRINGS US BACK!

NOTE: On occasion, in the past, we have telephoned and/or emailed the Corporate Office with our complaints about errors in the burger order, and they have been great about apologizing and mailing us “Free Burger” coupons to compensate us for their problems.

84664032_3430233153669893_5819223572710686720_n

Always VERY CLEAN! There is a small interior dining area and a large outside patio at The Habit near us. We think the interior dining space is too small, but we often get our food “To Go”, so it’s usually not a problem. There are only two registers at the front counter, and when it gets busy there is often a line to order. The open kitchen allows you to watch the crew prep, cook and tray your food. There is a soda fountain/condiment bar with a pickled pepper buffet with three kinds of peppers (jalapeño, pepperoncini, and banana) to accompany your food.

“The waiting is the hardest part.” – WAIT FOR IT! It doesn’t take that long.
Their slogan “Fresh is worth the wait” is front and center on the large square pagers they use to notify customers that the order is ready.  And the burger is worth it. You get hot and fresh cooked food (if it doesn’t sit too long on the order up counter) and it really makes a difference. It also removes the “fast-food” label and it becomes a “fast casual” dining experience. Whatever they want to call it, it’s a pretty good cheeseburger.

Time for some HOMECOOKING! Or at least pictures of food cooked at our home.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert! We are grateful to be able to dine out and bring food in when we want. We are even more thankful that we have access to and can afford such wonderful food, when so many people in the world are hungry.

“Please Sir, I want some more.”

“Food, Glorious Food” is a song from the musical “Oliver!” The musical adaption of the Charles Dickens novel “The Adventures of Oliver Twist” the story of a young orphan who runs away to London in search of a better life.

Take just a moment to appreciate the food you eat. Be thankful you aren’t starving.

Fresh Baked Cornbread & Cornbread Muffins!

Cornbread recipe:

1/2 Cup Corn Meal
1-1/2 Cups Flour
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Tsp Salt
1 Tbsp Baking Powder

2 Eggs (beaten)
3 Tbsp Butter (melted)
1/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
1-1/4 Cup Milk

Optional: Add 1/4 Cup of Honey to the batter mix

Combine dry ingredients in large bowl.
Combine wet ingredients in medium bowl.
Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix well

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease muffin pan and/or baking dish with more vegetable oil
Use a ~1/4 cup of batter for each muffin (fill each ~2/3 full)
Bake for ~18-20 mins or until they pass the toothpick test
Let cool and enjoy.

NOTE: This is basically the recipe on the Corn Meal box, so make adjustments for taste, time and temperature as necessary. We also like to add stuff before baking.
And the pictures show the product of a Doubled Recipe, so there will be fewer muffins.

Cornbread with BACON, cheese and jalapeño!

6 strips of Bacon (cooked and diced into very small pieces)
2/3 small block Colby Jack Cheese (diced into very small pieces)
1/2 small can of Diced Jalapeños (diced again into very small pieces)

Add Bacon, cheese and jalapeño to the batter mix and bake!
Adjust baking time as necessary, usually a little longer.

TIP: Bake in advance and freeze.
Let muffins cool completely and FREEZE them.
Then thaw them out and warm them before serving on the day of the party.

Have a Happy Turkey Day!

Happy Birthday Dinner at Mario Batali’s Carnevino at the Palazzo Las Vegas!

Dinner at Carnevino at the Palazzo Hotel on Friday night

Dinner at Carnevino at the Palazzo Hotel on Friday night

Friday night! We were celebrating in Las Vegas at the Palazzo Hotel and made a dinner reservation for 7:15pm. We arrived on time and were seated without having to wait.

Dinner at Carnevino at the Palazzo Hotel – The Carnevino Bar!

We had a choice of the Dining Room or a table in the Carnevino Bar with a view of the casino. We chose the Dining Room which was almost full, so we were seated at a 4top in the back of the house by the service doors (more about this later) and the entrance to the “group” and private dining rooms.

The Dining Room has a large metal cow in the center. We were sitting in the back of the house with a nice view of the cow’s ass. The space has an “old-world” rustic Italian theme. There are bottles of wine used as window display, and there’s a nice view of the Wynn and Encore hotels.

The service was excellent and the large restaurant staff is very well trained and extremely well managed and monitored! There is a defined procedure for every step of the meal followed by the waiters, servers and bus people. The meal was perfectly timed, done to order and everything we ate was excellent!

Dinner at Carnevino at the Palazzo Hotel on Friday night

Dinner at Carnevino at the Palazzo Hotel on Friday night

White linen tablecloths, a great menu with lots of variety, tasting menus and an extensive wine list were on the table and available.  As I mentioned before, we were seated at a 4top in the back of the house by the service doors. There’s a very large staff and they move very quickly. They also have carving carts for table presentations and large group rooms beyond the Dining Room accessed through the back of the house. I know this because of the constant stream of traffic rushing by our table, and the carts trying to fit between the chairs. There was also a clown car length line of business people that walked past our table to get to their party in the group room, probably 50 or so people parading past our table. It was a little distracting, and almost annoying, but we were enjoying the food and this is really my only complaint about the dining experience. I would advise requesting a table away from the service doors and back of house to anyone eating here.

The food was terrific. Everything was cooked to order and prepared with care. The presentation and plating was clean and simple, the food being the focus. We made our choices and chose a glass of wine (rather than a bottle) from their extensive list. I really enjoyed each delicious dish, which is the sign of a great kitchen.

On The Menu:

Cheese puff appetizer starter, Grilled octopus appetizer, NY Strip steak (bone in, cooked medium), charred asparagus, mashed potato with poached egg & bacon, bread with butter & lardo, a glass of red wine and a coke.

Dinner at Carnevino at the Palazzo Hotel – Fine Wine!

ROSSO DI MONTALCINO DOC – Tuscany, Italy
The Grape varietal of this wine is 100% Sangiovese Grosso; fermented & refined in stainless steel & glass concrete vats w/temperature controlled through cooling plates & jackets, aged roughly 12 months in 20-85 Hl Slavonian oak barrels. Rosso di Montalcino fruit-forward, spicy & floral. Red berry fruits notes are enriched by slight floral & spicy hints. Warm, soft on the palate w/great structure & round tannins.

The wine was a wee bit tannic at first, but was great with the perfectly cooked meat.

Thank you Carnevino! Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner! I really enjoyed the food and the service was terrific. I would definitely return and recommend it to my friends. It really is one of the best steaks in Las Vegas.

GOOD SHABBOS!

Vegas Leftovers!

Vegas Leftovers!

Vegas Tip! (or tip for any hotel stay): Request an in-room mini-refrigerator for a “special diet” or “medical reasons”! They usually provide them without a charge (ask them to waive the fee if there is one) and you’ll have a place to store leftovers, food you bring/buy outside the hotel, and a place to keep beverages cold (much better than the ice bucket). My Vegas leftover breakfast: cold NY strip steak, cold boneless buffalo wings with ranch dressing, pineapple juice, tiramisu, slightly stale donuts & a banana (not pictured)

After the 4th of July…Midsummer’s Daydream and Dinner at CPK!

I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July holiday weekend!

Fireworks! Celebrate America with explosives!

Fireworks! Celebrate America with explosives!

Family, Friends, Food, and Fireworks! Did you BBQ?

We had a small family barbecue dinner at home in the valley. Chose not to travel this holiday weekend and happy with that choice. I was invited to a big street party in Hawthorne on the other side of LAX that sounded fun, but it was a drive down the 405 freeway and it’s a Highway Patrol “maximum enforcement” weekend. Also, I don’t like to leave my dogs alone after dark on the 4th of July for obvious reasons.

On The Menu: Hamburger, chicken sausage on a bun, dill pickle, avocado, tortilla chips, sweet potato tortilla chips, sea salt & vinegar potato chips, watermelon and a coke. And then a giant fruit tart cake for dessert.

There was also a selection of olives, macaroni salad, and potato salad.

I wasn’t happy with the hamburger, so I got busy later after midnight and made a double cheeseburger with turkey bacon.

Today was the Monday after the weekend, a day to recover from the celebration, and then dinner at CPK (California Pizza Kitchen) again. Enjoyed a very nice dinner at the same restaurant last week, and had a coupon good on our next visit, so we went back again tonight.

On The Menu tonight: 1/2 of a Chinese chicken salad and a Hawaiian pizza with pepperoni, sourdough bread and a frozen mango lemonade.

Tried the frozen mango lemonade last week and it was cold fruity goodness! So I had it again, but decided to have different food items.

On The Menu last week: 1/2 of a BBQ chopped chicken salad and a BBQ chicken pizza (no cilantro and light onion), sourdough bread and a frozen mango lemonade.

They recently replaced the dry white bread and butter with fresh baked sourdough bread and oil. It is such an improvement! Something that doesn’t seem like a big deal, really changes the dining experience.
