CV! Part 158 (Monday-Tuesday)
Did you see the report on the CALL BOTS? TOTAL FAIL!
Now you need to pay someone to call the EDD for you, using a computer program,
if you want to get through and speak to the EDD – if not you won’t get through.
CALL VOLUME EXCEEDS THE EDD’s CAPABILITIES TO RESPOND!
And if you do get through, the service people aren’t trained to help you!
EDD HASN’T IMPROVED ANYTHING! THEY ARE LYING!
BofA is committing criminal fraud and holding people’s money!
Instead of wasting time trying to call EDD,
CALL YOUR CONGRESS PEOPLE, THE GOVERNOR’s OFFICE
AND YOUR CALIFORNIA STATE REPS! PRESSURE THEM TO ACT!

Newspapers, mail, check. The housekeeper came and we went back to bed.
We woke up. We went back to bed. We waited for the her to finish and leave.
We took the dog outside. And then we went into the kitchen.

FUCK MONDAY NIGHT. Bored. Just bored.
We finally ate something.

It’s NATIONAL ORANGE JUICE DAY!
Drink Orange Juice! Drink Coffee. Drink Water.
And we took the dog outside again.
We got the newspapers and the mail. It’s a beautiful day in the SFV.
Going to be HOT. Might hit 90 degrees later. And now we’re hungry.
11:55am: We ate a toasted cheese sandwich on sourdough
and made an iced espresso to drink.
NATIONAL CANDIED ORANGE PEEL DAY
Strips of orange peel cooked in sugar syrup until they are soft and chewy.
They can be sugar coated or dipped in chocolate for extra fun.
Candied Orange Peel
3 Oranges – navel or Valencia
2-1/4 Cups Sugar (granulated)
Sugar for coating and/or Chocolate for dipping (optional)
Prep and Blanche the Peel:
Rinse and clean three navel or Valencia oranges.
Cut the top and bottom off each orange. Score the skin into quarters.
Remove the skin (both peel and pith). Cut into strips about ¼” wide.
(eat or save the peeled oranges for other use)
In a medium saucepan, place the strips of peel and cover with cold water.
Blanch the peels: Bring the water to a boil. When the water boils, drain the water from the orange peel strips. Rinse in fresh cold water. Repeat at least two more times.
Blanching removes any bitter flavor in the orange peel. (TIP: Blanch the peels 4-5 times).
Drain the water and place the peels in a bowl.
Use the same saucepan, and whisk together 2-¼ cups sugar and 1-⅛ cups water.
Bring the mixture to a simmer over a low heat.
Cook 8-9 minutes at a constant simmer, adjust the heat, and make sure it doesn’t boil.
Add the orange peel. Cook about 45 minutes to 1 hour on medium-low heat, until the white pith is translucent (not white), adjust heat as needed – maintain the simmer, keep from boiling.
Swirl the pan occasionally to make sure that all of the peels get covered with syrup.
DO NOT STIR, this will cause crystallation.
Drain the cooked syrup from the orange peels – (set aside and save for another recipe).
Toss the peels in a bowl of sugar to coat, or dip in melted chocolate and let set. (optional),
Transfer to a drying rack. When they are dry, store them in an airtight container.
2;30pm: We took the dogs outside again.
And there was a steady stream of visitors to our door today beyond the Postman,
Even the water delivery guy who usually comes on Wednesday, is here right now.
NOTE: We have a new water guy, who we just met. Seems like a very nice fellow.
But people are so annoying sometimes. REALLY!

BIRD DAY! – “Shhhhssshhh! You’ll wake the damn birds!”
Charles Almanzo Babcock, the Superintendent of Schools in Oil City, Pennsylvania,
established the first Bird Day in 1894 to advance bird conservation as a moral value.
(National Bird Day is January 5, and National Audubon Day is April 26)
National Renewal Day – an opportunity for a new beginning. Just start over.

Remembering Lee Weisel
May his memory be a blessing.
Skiing with Dad in Park City, Utah (or Lake Tahoe, California)
We used to have great travel adventures. Motorhome trips, ski vacations,
Yosemite, Hawaii, Four Corners, a BiCentennial Tour of the east coast
(Washington DC, Philadelphia, Colonial Williamsburg, Connecticut),
family trips to Chicago and Palm Springs and New York, Big Sur,
San Diego, there was a Dude Ranch, and fishing trips, and Las Vegas……
Big Sur, California (mid-1970s)
Scuba Diving at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort in Kona, Hawaii (mid-1970s)
And our family co-owned a beach house in Ventura, California, just below Rincon, too.
So we would often “weekend at beach” on the coast north of Los Angeles.
We played piano with Herbie Hancock when he would stay at our house.
We went to more than a few rock concerts when we were a kid.
Read our previous Blog Posts if you’re really interested in some rock and roll history.
We once took a Motor Home trip to Circus-Circus in Las Vegas and went backstage
and under the bleachers when Black Oak Arkansas performed in August 1973.
Calliope-Festival Records – Sessions Live (The ABC Stars of Jazz)
Golden Voices Ltd. – The “Golden Throat” albums
LAFF Records – Richard Pryor!
Movies is Magic Productions, Inc.
“Loose Shoes” aka “Coming Attractions” 1978 feature film (directed by Ira Miller)
NOTE: My father was one of the Executive Producers and my brother and I were drafted as unpaid actors (extras) to appear in the scenes with the “kid roles”. We met Buddy Hackett and visited the Old Lincoln Heights Jail location in Downtown Los Angeles back when it was really scary! I also spent a lot of time in the Production Offices, visited the set, watched and learned about the film editing/post production process, and attended the “premier screening” of the film.
So, Dad also did some movie deals, and was involved in some other film productions.
He also helped a good friend get a job (and his foot in the door) at 20thCenturyFox.
That friend went on to become a big-time Hollywood studio executive and producer.
- And that’s enough for now. We’ll continue this another time.
Is it Giving Tuesday yet?
GIFTING IS ONE OF BURNING MAN’S TEN PRINCIPLES.
“Give it away now” – The Red Hot Chili Peppers
5:30pm: The dogs went outside. The dogs got fed. The dogs went outside.
Now they are in the bedroom chillin’.
6:15pm: We drank some juice and time passed. Today went by pretty quick.
We watched the news and surfed the interweb. We played with the dogs.
We ate a toasted bagel with cream cheese and a few pita chips.
7:45pm: And then we picked up dinner, brought it home, and ate!
On The Menu: Cuban food! Roasted garlic chicken with onions, white rice,
black beans, and fried plantains. With an iced coffee to drink. Full again.
8:20pm: Okay, so we took the dogs outside again after our dinner
and now we’re in the Home Office chillin’ again with them.
Watching “Finding Your Roots” on PBS with Lewis Black and Roy Wood Jr.
1:20am: Recapping Tuesday night. Nothing happened.
We are still chillin’ in the Home Office after midnight…. got through the day.
LOS ANGELES is in the YELLOW!
L.A. has reached the COVID-19 “Yellow Tier” Good news. Right?
Is anyone getting tested anymore? What about the vaccinations?
Who is vaccinated? Who isn’t vaccinated? HOW CAN YOU TELL?
We are waiting to be “fully vaccinated” with less risk of getting sick and dying.
We don’t want the short or long-term effects of a deadly virus, thank you anyways.
THAT IS WHY WE HAVE BEEN SELF-ISOLATING FOR 15 MONTHS!
THAT IS WHY WE ARE VACCINATED! GET VACCINATED if you haven’t yet!
