January 27, 2021 – First time filing since the CoronaVirus pandemic began.
Q: Why didn’t you file earlier?
A. Because the system was broken.
And the system remains broken. Fraud in the BILLIONS OF DOLLARS!
They made payments to inmates. People can’t get assistance or help!
They sent payments to people who used other people’s identities. (FRAUD)
People with a valid claim were cancelled and couldn’t get customer service.
This is the only thing keeping people fed and from becoming homeless!
Delays, Backlog of Applications,
THEY HAD TO DO MANUAL VERIFICATION!
AND NOW THEY ARE OUTSOURCING IDENTITY CHECK TO ID.me

A. Because there is no end to this pandemic….
We saw the news reports that the system had been improved.
And there’s a new President in The White House now.
Governor Gavin Newsom has totally f*cked California.
And he just lifted the “stay-at-home” order. But CASES ARE SPIKING!

So, we had a video meeting with a guy on the interweb.
Hopefully he really was with ID.me and not some guy stealing our identification.
He verified our ID. He looked at the documents.
It was easy once because we had everything ready. And now it’s 9:30am.
We are waiting on an email from ID.me.
We got the email. And went to the EDD site.
We filled out and submitted the online application.
Now we wait for approval. By mail, should take 10 days.
Then we went to CalJobs website and registered there.
And we created a new resume using their platform.
Still have to read what else is required by EDD for that.
And there’s a bunch of other stuff on the EDD site to read too.

UPDATED February 3, 2021:
There were THREE LETTERS from the EDD. None had a check inside.
There was one with a continuing claim form inside to be mailed later this week.
There was one offering the option of a mailed check rather than a Debit Card.
(We opted for the check, because there were a lot of problems with the cards issued by Bank of America, and we want to deposit the money and not have it on a card to spend)
And there was one with our account number and info about the online access site.
So, that’s Four Letters in two days, and we know the State of California is paying for them.
(and we also have to provide postage on the return opt-in letter)
UPDATED February 8, 2021:
We CERTIFIED our EDD Claim online for our first two weeks last night (Sunday AM).
We haven’t mailed the check request form yet, and we don’t have a Debit Card, so we are not sure what to do, because if they send a Card and we send the check request form, you just know there will be some kind of problem or delay.
UPDATED February 10, 2021:
We received a text message and an email yesterday from EDD.
They notified us that the first two weeks of benefits was paid into our account.
We don’t have a Debit Card yet, so we can’t access the account….
Hopefully they will send us a card today. (and NO CARD TODAY)

We tried to call the EDD – Unemployment Customer Service – today.

8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Pacific time), seven days a week, except state holidays
When you call, you get the voicemail system. You have to listen to the options, espanol?,
and then make your selection, and then more options, make a selection….
We have too many calls message, and then you’re disconnected. Good work EDD.
1st Attempt> 3:48 call then disconnected. “please try again later”….
2nd Attempt> 4:03 call then disconnected. “please try again later”….
The Automated Assistance number: 866-333-4606 (24-hours)
refers you back and also to another number that we didn’t call.
Instead we went online and tried to find out info about the Debit Card.
Bank of America is suppose to mail a new card one day after the claim is certified.
The website says to wait 10 DAYS before submitting a “lost” payment message….
So NO CARD TODAY. We’ll see if it comes tomorrow, If not we’ll take action on Monday.
THERE IS ALSO A DIRECT DEPOSIT OPTION – But you have to have the card first.
And you need a PIN number too…. so that’s probably another piece of mail….
So, we tried today, and we’ll follow up on Monday maybe.

Here’s the story about Saturday.
The Bank of America Debit Card came on Saturday afternoon.
We went online to activate the card (because the claim was certified last week and the account was funded with our first two week payment) on Saturday afternoon and…. TOTAL FAIL!
We tried three times and NO DICE. We called the BofA phone number….
voicemail, talk to a service rep, transfer to Fraud Dept. There’s a fraud hold.
Talk to Fraud Dept. – on hold – “cannot tell you why”
THEY HAVE TO TRANSFER ME TO THE EDD. Okay.
EDD Voicemail message. Options. EDD Voicemail message. Options.
Problem with your payment option… Call volume is high, “try again later”
Disconnected.
Try again. Disconnected.
Call BofA again: voicemail, talk to a service rep, transfer to Fraud Dept.
We know there’s a fraud hold. Talk to Fraud Dept. – on hold – NO HELP!
THEY HAVE TO TRANSFER ME TO THE EDD. We know what’s going to happen.

so the phones are closed on the Saturday before because why?

This is obviously so BofA can run the money through their bank, take their cut, and then take their cut again (it’s called “the float” and the interest on “the float” goes in their pockets)….

If you haven’t been following the story, we finally filed an Unemployment Claim.
We had to verify our identification through ID.me (an EDD contractor)
Our ID was verified. We were appoved for Unemployment.
Our claim was submitted and certified.
And then we were notified the account was funded.
We waited for the EDD Debit Card and it came on Saturday.

We called BofA, and the transferred us around, and then back to EDD….
And EDD was closed on Saturday, Sunday, and also Monday (President’s Day).

It’s so easy when you find a person that knows what they’re doing and wants to help while doing their job. You don’t find that too often at any California State agency.

12:11pm Security Procedure (at each point), they need Card Number, name, security questions, and then they text you a 6 digit code and have you read it back. (this is not new)
12:14pm ON HOLD again.
12:16pm He told us we need to verify our address with the EDD.
We told him we had verified with EDD last week.
He looked at the file and then realized we knew he was telling us B*LLSHIT.
12:20pm Transferred us to the EDD Voicemail Number…. EDD Voicemail Message.

HANG UP ON US AGAIN. DISCONNECTED at 12:24pm. Another half hour wasted.
We sent BofA another email, cc’d with our local Congressman’s email again.

UPDATE FROM MARCH 5, 2021: CA EDD and BofA – THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!
California Unemployment TOTAL FAIL and Bank of America’s CRIMINAL FRAUD!
The story so far: We finally filed for unemployment. We verified with ID.me again.
Our claim was approved and our account was funded with our first two weeks, and then our second two weeks of payments. And we received our EDD Debit Card.
WE COULD NOT ACTIVATE THE EDD DEBIT CARD on the BofA website.
We spent hours on the phone and on hold going around and around with EDD and BofA.
We were told by EDD that the hold on the account was released and BofA was notified.
We were told because of backlog, it could take 10-14 days for BofA to be notified.
WE MAILED A REQUEST FOR CHECKS TO BE MAILED BY EDD – Must Remove BofA!
We sent many messages and emails to EDD and BofA.
We filed online complaints with the FTC and FBI.
We called our Congressman, State Senator, and State Assemblyman too.
We contacted someone in the Assemblyman’s office who said they would help us!
We received a misspelled and confusing message from EDD that changed our check request back to EDD DEBIT CARD….
An EDD DEBIT CARD THAT WE CANNOT ACTIVATE!
and we cannot contact anyone at EDD or BofA to help us…..
Tony for BofA Regulatory Complaints called from an unidentified 877 toll number…
and left a message. We have called back twice and left messages on his voicemail.
We are still waiting for him to call again.
AND WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE EDD DEBIT CARD TO BE ACTIVATED!
So, today we called the Assemblyman’s office again
(after messaging EDD again and leaving another message for Tony at BofA),
They are working remotely in the Assemblyman’s office, so we left a message with the office staffer, and then our contact called us back pretty quick, and told us she didn’t previously have our phone number or email….????) We told her our story of EDD FAILURE, sent her an email with a screenshot of the EDD message, and our wonderful contact said she would get back to us by the end of the day today! She has contacts at EDD and someone at BofA who can maybe do something.
We received an email from our contact in reply to the email and screenshot we sent her.
UPDATED MARCH 10, 2021:
AND WE UNLOADED AGAIN ON THE EDD AND BofA this morning.
We filed our 3rd claim online with EDD on Sunday,
so now we are SIX WEEKS WITHOUT PAYMENT.
Our claim was paid again. We have not heard back from BofA.
WE LEFT A FOURTH MESSAGE FOR TONY AT BofA.
WE MESSAGED EDD AGAIN TODAY: NOW 13 MESSAGES!

UNEMPLOYMENT! – Remember our CA EDD Unemployment Claim?
We wrote about a lot over the last month and a half….. trying to get paid.
Actually, trying to get BofA to fork over the money they were holding!
We wrote the Blog Post “CV! Part 136 – VICTORY!” last week.
WE FINALLY GOT BANK OF AMERICA TO RELEASE THE HOLD
ON OUR CA EDD DEBIT CARD! WE GOT OUR FUCKIN’ MONEY!
We followed up with the Assemblyman’s office.
They contacted the EDD and removed any holds or flags on account.
The EDD was supposed to have contacted BofA to let them know.
BofA still hadn’t activated the account.
A service rep for BofA called and left a message with a number a week before.
WE LEFT FOUR MESSAGES ON HIS VOICEMAIL WITHOUT A RESPONSE.
We finally emailed a BofA Corporate Executive.
And we went on Twitter and tweeted to another Corporate Executive.
We got a call from the BofA service rep after his normal “working” hours that day!
WE TOLD HIM OUR TALE OF TRYING TO GET THE EDD DEBIT CARD ACTIVATED.
Calling EDD and BofA, hours on hold, transferred to someone else, on hold for hours, disconnected, and sent to a dead end line that never answers more than once, and referred back and forth without anyone at BofA able to contact anyone at EDD, and then back to hours on hold with EDD. No one at EDD is able to contact BofA….WTF?
The BofA service rep confirmed the account was cleared and the card would be activated!
And IT WAS FINALLY ABLE TO BE ACTIVATED.
SO WE ACTIVATED OUR EDD DEBIT CARD. FUCK YOU BANK OF AMERICA!
AND THE NEXT MORNING WE DID A MANUAL CASH WITHDRAWAL AT OUR BANK
FROM OUR MONEY ON OUR EDD DEBIT CARD AND DEPOSITED IN OUR ACCOUNT.
NOTE: We left a small nominal amount on the card in case we need to put more money on it.
We have requested checks directly and we received our first check from the EDD.
We removed BofA from our business.

if you want to get through and speak to the EDD – if not you won’t get through.

And if you do get through, the service people aren’t trained to help you!
EDD HASN’T IMPROVED ANYTHING! THEY ARE LYING!

We got the mail, and we got some mail from the CA EDD.
We couldn’t get through to EDD on the telephone, so we emailed our contact at our Assemblyman’s office who helped us with our Claim problem (see the above Blog Post and Updates about Filing for California Unemployment, the Employment Development Department FAILS, and the criminal activity by Bank of America and their Executives).
JUST TOTAL FRAUD.
But the Assemblyman’s staffer has a direct contact at EDD and helped us again!
We needed to Backdate our Claim, because we were originally late to file….
and today we received the claim forms for the weeks that needed claiming!
In fact DUPLICATE CLAIM FORMS! And they were weekly, instead of bi-weekly,
so we got FOURTEEN envelopes from EDD today,
with 14 claim forms, 14 cover letters, and 14 return envelopes.
AND THEN WE CERTIFIED ONLINE!!!!! Paperless.
Because the payments get mailed faster. And we’ll recycle the paper.
MORE WASTE. MORE BAD MANAGEMENT! AND JUST PAR FOR THE COURSE.
WE DON’T HAVE THE FUNDS ADDED ELECTRONICALLY
TO THE BofA BANK CARD BECAUSE OF BofA AND OTHER FRAUD!

there is a “Work Search” requirement to look for employment.
