Monday, December 21, 2020 – Happy Winter Solstice!
3:00am: Well, we just woke up and realized we didn’t have dinner.
We went to the kitchen and ate a toasted onion bagel with cream cheese and a half a dill pickle. We made an espresso and took the dogs outside. Then we put them to bed.
It’s a beautiful cool night out! Perfect for the Winter Solstice.
Halemaumau is erupting!
The Kilauea Volcano on Big Island Hawaii!
“Officials say the eruption began around 9:30 p.m.
By 1 a.m., USGS officials reported lava fountains that shot about 165 feet into the sky
were feeding a growing lava lake within the crater.”
9:00am: We fed the dogs. We were outside with the dogs. We got the newspapers.
We took a shower. We folded our laundry. (yes, we did a load of laundry last night)
We ate another bagel and drank another espresso.
What we didn’t do was sleep.
12:15pm: Well, we just got back from the dentist. (and there was some anxiety involved)
Normally that wouldn’t be a thing, but in these weird times we live in it is A BIG THING.
Just a cleaning, that had been pushed a few months. (so we put on pants today)
And so MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, and we are now “safer-at-home” again.
We are back to chilling’ with the dogs in the Home Office.
We went outside, and now they’re laying on the bed while we update this Blog Post.
The housekeeper is here cleaning today, so we are isolating until she is finished.
Feeling relieved and exhausted right now. Nice to get out of the house too.
It was A VERY BEAUTIFUL DAY OUTSIDE!
3:45pm: And then we took a nap with the dogs. And we slept for a couple hours.
We just took the dogs outside and drank another espresso. We are awake again.
The housekeeper finished and left long ago, so the house is nice and clean too.
DRINK WATER! DRINK COFFEE! And watch “The Big Lebowski”
5:30pm: We were outside again with the dogs. And then they got fed.
And then we went outside to look at “The Christmas Star” – “Grand Conjunction”
Jupiter and Saturn aligned and were the closest they have been in ~400 years!
It was visible with the naked eye in the southwest sky at and after dusk.
See both planets with binoculars, and the moons with a telescope.
We’ve been going in and out to watch the “star” in the sky.

NFL Monday Night Football tonight:
Pittsburgh Steelers (11-2) v. Cincinnati Bengals (2-10-1)
The Steelers are -14, and favored to win by two touchdowns.
Not going to be much of a game. But take the Bengals and the points.
Now we are going to say it, after another bad call by a referee/line judge:
THE FIX IS IN ALL SEASON! THE REFS ARE CROOKED!
THE POINT SHAVING BY THE OFFICIALS IS SO OBVIOUS!
NO, couldn’t happen in professional sports, right? REALLY? REALLY?
This whole season has been a super pandemic clusterf*ck.
THE BENGALS WIN! Actually they won all game long.
The Steelers sucked. They almost tied the game at the end of the 4th Quarter.
4th and 10 and it was over! Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh in a huge upset!
We were just thinking about Thai food for dinner,
and the Postmates “Pad Thai” commercial came on… kinda weird.
On The Menu: Breakfast for dinner at 11:30pm. 2 eggs over easy, bacon, toasted onion bagel with cream cheese, dill pickle, celery&carrot sticks, avocado, raspberries, and red grapes

DO NOT TRAVELTUESDAY! STAY HOME AND STAY HEALTHY!
We watched “The Old Guard” on Netflix with Charlize Theron.
Then we fell asleep with the dogs.
7:30am: We woke up and took care of stuff. The dogs were outside and got fed.
And then we all went outside again.
We got the newspapers and drank a cup of espresso.
Then we scooped the poop.
11:45pm: Let’s recap the day. Okay, nothing happened.
Well, we did put on pants and run an errand.
We had to go over to the car dealer (parts department) to get new batteries for my 2 electronic “remote” car keys… $20, and a sh*tload of stress. Had to wait for one customer, but a woman was sitting in a chair wearing a mask and talking a mile-a-minute on her cell phone right and facing right where we had to stand and wait. And we were also forced to walk through the “customer lounge” to get to the parts desk which also sucked.

The Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas reopened tonight. (and it was really empty)
We watched the “Not Leaving Las Vegas” livestream on Youtube. 
Update: We also watched another livestream on Wednesday and yes, everyone is wearing a mask, but the hotel and casino staff aren’t social distancing, at least from what we witnessed.

Wednesday, December 23, 2020 – Happy Festivus!

3:00am: Time for a little baking! Yes, we have some bananas!
We have some bananas for banana bread today!
And we are going to make a big pot of chili for Christmas!
But first, we took one of the dogs outside for some dog business.
And we woke them up and took them out and put them back to bed.
WE ARE WIDE AWAKE and also really tired. It’s called Insomnia.
And it’s another beautiful night/morning in the SFV.
Cool to “California cold” and the marine layer rolled in tonight.
The half Moon looks like the Cheshire Cat’s smile in the misty clouds.
No “Grand Conjunction” tonight, but last night was really beautiful too.
We’ve been able to see stars in the sky,
which we normally can’t see because of light pollution.
6:45am: Mission Accomplished!
We baked two loaves of banana bread and made a pot of chili before dawn.
We just got the newspapers and put in a load of laundry.
Time to take care of the dogs.
On The Menu: Banana Bread and a big pot of Christmas Chili
10:00am: So we cleaned up the kitchen and we were outside and we fed the dogs and then we all fell asleep. We woke up a little before 10:00am. The dogs went outside and we drank a cup of espresso, and now it’s Wednesday morning. And the postman is here….
We got the mail and drank another cup of espresso.
We had a little taste of the chili (we started reheating it earlier) and it was pretty good.
Today, in 1888, Van Gogh cut off his ear.
1:00pm: We did some stuff. We scooped the poop and cleaned up the yard a little.
The gardener is coming and we have a few “jobs” for him today.
And WTF? They are landing jets into Van Nuys and Burbank over our house again today.
2 really low and loud ones between 12-12:30pm today while we were outside.
Another one just now at 1:02pm. Time for another (worthless) complaint to the FAA.
And another at 1:07pm. THIS ISN’T M*THERF*CKING INGLEWOOD!
5:45pm: We took a nap.
Well, because well didn’t sleep last night we slept a little today.
And we woke up and took care of the dogs. We were outside and they got fed and we were outside and they were in the Home Office and we went outside and now they are laying down in the other room for a little while. The gardener came and they outside looks good.
We just gave the housekeeper the day off tomorrow (with pay of course) for Christmas.
We took care of a few other things around the house and now we are thinking about dinner.
Yesterday we were hungry all day, and we kept saying “we’re hungry”…
but we didn’t make the tacos for dinner until 10:30pm.
We had a toasted onion bagel with cream cheese and drank another cup of espresso and some juice for lunch, before we took our nap, and that’s all we ate today besides a little taste chili this morning, so yeah, we’re hungry.
7:00pm: We’re still hungry. We haven’t eaten yet.
We’ve been messing around on the interweb for an hour, and now we are watching “Jeopardy”

We just set up the Blog Post for “Happy New Years’ Eve 2021”, so that took a little time too.
On The Menu: When there’s a big pot of hot and spicy chili, eat it.
Chili with cheese and chopped onion, toasted sourdough bread, and an iced espresso to drink. Happy Festivus everyone!
