Saturday, June 20, 2020 – HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE!
Happy Summer Solstice!
12:30am: Okay, that was good. Took the day off Friday and drove the dogs to the beach and back. Had an okay bacon cheeseburger for lunch. Didn’t take any pictures. Got hot and sweaty and uncomfortable. Came home an took another shower.
So, we took a nice hot shower at 4:00am on Friday morning thinking that would help us fall asleep, but it didn’t, we may have slept for maybe an hour and we woke up and fed the dogs and got the newspapers. Then we loaded the dogs cages into the car and got everything ready to go before they knew what was happening. We almost called it off (because we were so tired), but instead we loaded the dogs into the car and had an adventure
AND NOW HERE’S OUR CRAZY RANT OF THE DAY:
We didn’t really enjoy our trip, and it was very stressful for the dogs and for us…..
And the hostess at the hamburger stand WASN’T WEARING HER MASK ON HER FACE!
We parked and walked the dogs to the restaurant, it was hot and the dogs were still crazy from getting there, and then she had her mask around her neck, and was talking and handling the food and credit transaction WITHOUT A MASK! We were standing outside on the curb, and the exchange happened outside but WTF?! We wore a mask and we were 20 feet away with the dogs…. and when someone from the business came out and started approaching the dogs, we asked her nicely not to pet them (and without saying it – to stay the fuck away). And then we walked back with the food and it was hot and we were really angry but not saying anything, and we were stressing very hard about it.
WE HAVE TREMENDOUS ANGER TOWARDS PEOPLE WHO AREN’T BEING 100% SAFE! AND THAT IS BECAUSE WE HAVE ELDERLY LOVED ONES WHO MIGHT DIE IF EXPOSED! AND IT ONLY TAKES ONE CARELESS EXPOSURE – THERE’S NO SECOND CHANCE! AND SOME PEOPLE ARE CARELESS, AND SOME PEOPLE COULDN’T CARE LESS. AND THERE’S A STUPIDITY AND AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF DENIAL ABOUT STUPID BEHAVIOR! YOU MIGHT DIE! YOUR FAMILY MIGHT DIE! YOUR FRIENDS AND ASSOCIATES AND NEIGHBORS MIGHT DIE! WE DON’T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN. And so our lunch was “just okay”, and actually it was really horrifying.
And to be honest, it’s the longest period of time we’ve been out of the house since the beginning of March, and the longest drive we’ve made in months, with the added pressure of managing, transporting, and protecting the dogs. It was really really stressful to begin with and then MY BIGGEST TRIGGER being exposed by someone without a mask happens right in front of me, TEN HOURS LATER AND WE ARE STILL BEYOND MAD.
And we drove home, with some real stop-and-go traffic on the 101 Freeway (the “Ventura Highway”), unloaded and took care of the dogs, took a shower, fell asleep and took a nap, woke up and fed the dogs, and worked on the Blog to work this out. And that was Friday.
It’s 1:00am Saturday morning now. We haven’t eaten dinner, but we ate some mini pretzels and a little ice cream and a few triangles of Toblerone chocolate, and we only ate half the bacon cheeseburger and fries for lunch because we just couldn’t. FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK. (and thats not even enough Fucks)
Okay, we’re going to go eat and/or sleep now we think. FUCKFUCKFUCK.
4:15am: SLEEP WON. We slept a little and just woke up and took the dogs outside.
And we didn’t even eat dinner.
NOTE: We revisited this mini-RANT on Saturday at 4:30pm and we’re still mad.
Saturday morning. Today is the day!

The dumbest segment of our society on display…. RACISTS, BIGOTS, ANTI-SEMITES!

They think he’s Jesus, And a Trump Rally is everything they dream of….
Stupid people (just like them) gathered together to worship the orange turd.
And now add the CoronaVirus! And remember the virus and wearing a mask is a Democratic political hoax. SO PLEASE TRUMPERS, DON”T WEAR A MASK TODAY!
And they are not wearing masks at the Trump Rally of course!

UPDATED Thursday, July 16: There was a YUGE surge in CoronaVirus cases following the Trump Rally (as expected) in addition to the re-opening of bars and restaurants, and having no mask requirements. And today the Governor of Oklahoma tested positive.
2:00pm: And we were awake and the dogs got fed and we got the newspapers.
And we were outside, and we went back to bed, and we woke up again.
And we were outside again with the dogs and we scooped the poop, and we are doing a load of laundry, and now we are updating the Saturday Blog Post.
And we are hungry and thinking about some breakfast/lunch food now.

5:00pm: Okay, so we watered the new tomato plants and the Little Boy loves the hose! So he got all wet and dirty while he was having fun in the water and so we had to give him a rinse off bath and he loves being dried off, so he’s a very happy boy night now. And we were amused and had fun too. (and love my run on sentences …. hard to care about proper grammar these days)
We still haven’t really eaten today. We had a celery stalk with peanut butter and some mini-pretzels as a snack but we need some real food right now, and then we’ll feed the dogs their supper. And they had a late breakfast and a lot of snacks already today, so they’ll be fine for a little while longer.
8:00pm: So we made some food, and ate the food, and the dogs were outside and they got fed, and we were outside again, and now we are all chillin’ in the Home Office again.
On The Menu: Breakfast for dinner again: 3 eggs over medium, bacon, quesadilla, celery&carrots, dill pickle, raspberries, and cran-raspberry-orange juice and an iced espresso to drink

“The story I’m about to share with you about Joe Biden is special — in fact, I’m fairly certain I’m the only living person left who actually witnessed it firsthand. It was about 16 years ago, and I was a young rabbi, brand-new to Delaware, on my way to lead a shiva minyan — a worship service following a death of a Jewish person. I was from California. Back then, I didn’t know Claymont, Delaware from Scranton, Pennsylvania.
A quick bit of background: When someone passes away in the Jewish faith, we observe seven days of mourning, called shiva. We gather a group of ten Jewish adults together — a minyan — to say the Mourners’ Kaddish. It usually happens in a person’s home — somewhere intimate. In this case, the deceased individual — her name was Mrs. Greenhouse, of blessed memory — had not been a person of means. She had lived in rent-controlled senior housing in a tall high-rise building off of Namaans Road. Her apartment had been too small to fit everyone into, so we conducted our worship service in the building’s communal laundry room, in the basement of the high-rise.
We assembled the ten elders together, and it was in this most humble of places that I began to lead the kaddish. Toward the end of the service, a door at the back of the laundry room opened, and who walks in but Senator Joe Biden, his head lowered, all by himself. I nearly dropped my prayer book in shock.
Senator Biden stood quietly in the back of the room for the duration of the service.
At the close of the kaddish, I walked over to him and asked the same question that must have been on everyone else’s mind: “Senator Biden — what are you doing here?”
And he said to me: “Listen, back in 1972, when I first ran for Senate, Mrs. Greenhouse gave $18 to my first campaign. Because that’s what she could afford. And every six years, when I’d run for reelection, she’d give another $18. She did it her whole life. I’m here to show my respect and gratitude.” Now, the number 18 is significant in the Jewish faith — its numbers spell out the Hebrew word chai, as in “to life, to life, l’chayim!” But it’s also a humble amount. Joe Biden knew that. And he respected that.
There were no news outlets at our service that day — no Jewish reporters or important dignitaries. Just a few elderly mourners in a basement laundry room. Joe Biden didn’t come to that service for political gain. He came to that service because he has character. He came to that service because he’s a mensch. And if we need anything right now when it comes to the leadership of our country — we need a mensch.
I know this is such a simple, small story. But I tell it to as many people as will listen to me.
Because I think that, in their heart of hearts, when people are trying to think about the decision they’ll make this year — this is the kind of story that matters.
Joe Biden is a mensch. We need a mensch.
